MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University men's basketball coach Bob Huggins has announced that Taj Thweatt has signed a national letter of intent for the 2020-21 academic year.

Thweatt, a 6-foot-7, 200-pound forward from Wildwood, New Jersey, is currently in his senior year at Wildwood Catholic High School, playing for coach Dave DeWeese.

In just his fourth year of playing organized basketball last season, he averaged 20.2 points and 10.7 rebounds per game as a junior at Wildwood Catholic High. He made 27 3-point field goals, shooting 36 percent from 3-point range.

"We are really excited to have Taj join the West Virginia family," Huggins said. "He brings much-needed athleticism and has the ability to play multiple positions on the front line. Taj is capable of being a 3-man who can play both offensively and defensively on the perimeter while equally playing and guarding in the post position. Taj has been very well coached in high school."

He led the Crusaders to the Cape-Atlantic League championship and the South Jersey Non-Public B final. Wildwood Catholic finished with a 27-2 record last season.

Thweatt was named the 2018-19 Press (The Press of Atlantic City) Boys Player of the Year and the Philadelphia Inquirer's 2018-19 South Jersey Player of the Year.

Thweatt played AAU basketball for Team Rio AAU. On the Under Armour Circuit this season, he averaged 7.2 points and 4.4 rebounds in 14 games played.

The early signing period continues for one week.
