FWIW. I reached out too and just heard back from a friend who knows Huggs well and who’s known Oscar since he came to this country. His family has helped a number of African kids. He thinks that Oscar just didn’t feel like he was developing the right way for his future with Huggs/WVU any more. Said there‘s love and respect there, but that O and Huggs have grown increasingly frustrated with each other this past year. Said Oscar wants, “to do more than practice/play 3 feet away from the basket“ and ongoing plus recent disagreements/confrontations made him feel like it was time to move on. He said that of course there are people in Oscar’s ear and some are probably making it worse, but that this has been brewing for a while. He said he hates to see Oscar leave but it’s probably for the best for all concerned right now. Said he really is a good kid.

Lastly, he‘d heard about the Long family’s name being out there as somehow part of this. Said that was completely ridiculous and couldn’t be more off base. He didn’t understand how anyone could even think that, so please put that to bed. Maybe we should have a better source than the Pitt free board before we throw something like that out there?
