Well, on the surface you lose your most experienced returning defensive back from a year ago playing 716 snaps and recording 46 tackles, 6 pass breakups and an interception. That isn't easy to replace especially when you consider that Porter had to learn on the job last year being a first-time starter. The good news is that Nicktroy Fortune should be back from injury which is another experienced option, albeit not as good in coverage as Porter. The Mountaineers also are going to welcome FCS all-American Marcis Floyd and he is now going to be asked to step in and provide some immediate help. Andrew Wilson-Lamp will be a redshirt freshman and there is a lot of optimism on his future with the program. There are three impressive true freshmen as well in Jacolby Spells, Mumu Bin-Wahad and Tyrin Woodby two of which enrolled in January to start their careers. You could also move Charles Woods back to cornerback if need be, but it likely means that you could see yet another cornerback addition through the portal to help cover the losses on the team. It isn't dire straights, but they're going to have to rely on some new faces yet again at cornerback. If the rest of the roster stays in tact there are currently 15 of the top 20 in snaps played on defense back which should help.
