So are these stimulus checks..

I’m single and make over the thresh hold for a person filing single and I’m fine with that. What they did do for people like myself who work through a union hall and have been laid off bc of the outbreak, is extend our unemployment benefits 13 weeks on top
Of the normal 26 weeks available to us yearly. Also they are allocating $600 additional a week for four months to compensate the eligible workers who are out of work. In NJ the weekly full rate of UI is $713. Basically I will get 2/3rds of my weekly take home until this is over. My medical insurance is also safe for 22 months from the last day I worked so I gladly won’t worry about the one time payment from the govt. I’m sure someone needs it more then I do and hope it helps someone and their family.
I hope you get called back soon,i am glad to hear there are some union halls left don't let them bust your union, the middle class would be better off if we had more unions.

101 years strong in my local. We are very lucky to say the least. But as a whole we work hard, contractors make money and customers keep coming back.

It’s impossible to pay back at this point

I won't qualify for much of anything, but does the $500 per child still apply, regardless of income?[/QUOTE
I didn't have a whole lot of problems with it. Something needs done or we will all be in bad shape in 6 months. I would have like to seen the payment start at 2000 then scale down to 1000 at the 100k mark. Basically give the lower incomes more, they are the people who are really hurting. For full disclosure, I will receive it but I am at the very top of the cutoff before it starts scaling down.
Stimulus packages, historically, haven’t worked. People will absolutely receive the money that don’t need it and vice versa. The income levels that are quoted are skewed. Money goes a lot further in certain parts of the country than others. There will be people in parts of the country that won’t see any of this money that will absolutely need it.

So the alternative is what exactly?

And I think stimulus is the wrong thing to call this particular legislation.

That is absolutely hilarious. You obviously don't understand the economy and what happens if the flow of money stops. What you really don't understand is what Nancy Pelosi tried to put in the Bill to save the economy. She want to spend Billions on her pet projects, Planned Parenthood, Kennedy Center, Public Democrat television. Millions for Illegals, Millions for a raise for the House of Delegates. Does that sound fiscally conservative?

It was a joke.

Blaming the Speaker of the House for an 800-page bill that passed the Senate on a 96-0 vote is pretty weak sauce. I used to try that with my mother, saying I didn't want to do whatever foolish thing, but my nasty brother made me do it. She never bought it. Not once.

The fact is, both parties own this deal equally, for better or for worse. I'd also point out that President Trump specifically said he supported giving money to the Lincoln Center. Easy enough to Google that.

For the record, I do understand what the deficit means and how it will "affect" me and my children one day, but we always seem to keep simply printing more money... Economics be damned !
All of the nations of the world owe so much debt to one another that it's just a reality. Debt isn't a bad thing. What is bad is when you rely on that debt to make ends meet, like Europe did with Germany's war reparations debt after WWI. The Great Depression hit and that collapsed everything.

It'd be nice if we had a balanced budget, but for that people need to: 1) stop cutting taxes and 2) trim outrageous spending like defense spending. Do you see either happening? I don't.

Then Germany decided to stop paying all together in 1933..

I don't know how the Fed. works but i googled where is the 2 trillion coming from, here's what it said they will issue Treasury bonds they are sold to banks if banks don't have enough to buy them the Federal Reserve will lend them as much as they need to buy them then banks will sell bonds. Does that make sense i guess the Fed just prints the money.

The last time the budget was balanced was by a guy named Slick Willie now there was a man who knew what he was doing he was getting head, balancing the budget and paying down the debt all at the same time.

More than 44% of Americans pay no federal income tax

The Tax Policy Center estimates how many people paid no federal individual income taxes in 2018

Bam!!

I take that to mean that 44 % of Americans don't make enough money to pay taxes. I saw that 12.5 % of American families make below the poverty line of $ 24,500 so they do not pay but apparently there are many who still have enough deductions and credits to pay 0. I don't see anything wrong with being in that group.[/QUOTE]

I have no problem helping those that are trying and need help. We should help them! W
I couldn't find either of those appropriations in there, but I didn't get through all 1404 pages, mostly just the table of contents and the first few hundred pages. Maybe you guys can find that and point it out. Otherwise it's probably more partisan bs.

https://appropriations.house.gov/sites/democrats.appropriations.house.gov/files/COVIDSUPP3_xml.pdf

PAGE 725 Heading:
John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts
$25,000,000

PAGE 726 & 727
An additional $150,000,000 for other arts and humanities foundations

PAGE 784 Heading:
House of Representatives
Salary and Expenses
$25,000,000
I'll let those read the print and decipher if they'd like

90% of America is getting a somewhat free check (I’m sure it will get taxed). The republicans turned into socialists & Dems suddenly became fiscally conservative.

Well played Corona. Well played.
Please provide references to the items included in the bill where the Dems demonstrate fiscal conservatism. Page numbers or or numbered paragraphs will suffice.

THANKS

Nobody outside of the affluent will be able to afford it. Even if you're insured, the bill will still be astronomical.
Retirees with Medicare A and B and a halfway decent Medicare/prescription supplement would pay virtually zero for unlimited treatment.
