Serious question: what coach comes into program avg 9 wins/year and...

Dana has had 5 years to develop the program into his likeness. He has been granted a 6th season as HC. For those who so diligently support him and seem dialed in to his ability what should we expect moving forward? Do you believe Dana can take us to a point we can win the conference and challenge the top 4 year in and year out or are you saying WVU can only expect to be a slightly above average team because the Big 12 to challenging? Maybe do better every now and again? I keep reading the never ending defense of Dana and how hard the Big 12 is but I really don't know what you believe he is capable of doing? If you think he can take us to the next step what is it you see in him that makes you believe? How long should WVU wait to see it through?
as I've stated several times; WVU winning 7-9 games a year is about par for this program in the Big 12. Occasionally we might win 10 games. Maybe once or twice a decade. If you are demanding more, you should find another school

If you are demanding more, you should find another school

Let me paraphrase your post so you can see how idiotic it is: If you are demanding better for the school you love, you need to find another school/team. You shouldn't have such lofty expectations as 10 wins a year for our beloved Mountaineers.

I think you should find another board; one where morons hang out.

its nice to dream and wish. But this is reality. WVU is NOT that type of program. Demanding 10 wins is stupid. Like I said, find another school if you are one them demanding that.

not sure where your persistent Marshall references are coming from? Unless you're a fan in denial? Either or, carry on if you feel it necessary to label everyone a Marshall fan lol
I don't don't label everyone as Marshall fans, Little Detroit... Just broken-record Marshall trolls such as yourself...

Obviously, you already knew the answer before yo posed the question. Even a broader, "how many have coaches have failed to improve a program by their 5th season and then achieved a high level of success?" query and we all know that such results are extreme exceptions.

To be fair, a main reason it is extraordinarily unusual for it to happen is largely because it is extraordinarily unusual for a coach to be given the opportunity.

To get any meaningful historical information, we need to have a sample of a significant number of coaches who were allowed to continue coaching at the same school for well beyond 5 years despite the lack of improvement for the first 5, and then look at how many made a later improvement and how many didn't.

That would be a lot of work to try to gather such information when it seems highly probable that all it would lead to is the conclusion that the sample size is way too small to mean anything.

Of course, it also means that continuously throwing Beamer's name in to defend Holgorsen is equally worthless. One example from a quarter century ago is insignificant.

I suppose you could throw another caveat into the equation and ask... how many first year coaches (first time ever being a head coach) have ever propelled their program into a Juggernaut within 5 years while transitioning to a power 5 conference with an empty cupboard? Add to that... while being thrown to the wolves during a major coaching transitioning fiasco?

wait..you've changed your mantra..the WV mentality that you exclaimed was the " we aren't good enough" crowd were holding us back..

Now, our offense isn't remotely close to the talent level of the "empty cupboard" that Dana inherited...
according to who? You? Lol. Last year we put Kevin white in the NFL with the 8th overall pick. Charles sims recently. Wendell Smallwood will be an NFL back. As well as others. The difference is depth. You have to be 2 deep in this league at the minimum.

Year 1 in Big 12 with an "empty cupboard" and when conference-transition effects were at their worst = 7-6 (4-5)

Year 4 in Big 12 with an entire cycle of "better and better" recruiting and now fully used to this conference = 7-5 (4-5)

Either recruiting isn't as "great" as it's been hyped or someone's coaching acumen hasn't progressed very much.

Good thing we still had some "empty cupboard" guys to anchor this year's defense. I'd hate to think where we would've been without them! [roll]
