Spoke to Landon Watnick from our Florida Site for some more insight into the play of former Gators quarterback WIll Grier and he had some good stuff to share.
"Definitely throws a good ball. Has a good arm, puts nice zip on a lot of his balls (sometimes too much zip) and has that ability to hit tight windows downfield standing in the pocket. Biggest issue with Grier was consistency and constantly staying focused in practice. Sometimes he pressed too much and tried to force things, and it resulted in interceptions and lost drives. He had the tools McElwain was looking for, but Mac expects a lot out of his QBs and sometimes Grier didn't live up to his standards. The QB battle should have been his to win outright in the fall (Treon Harris isn't a good QB or a good fit as a spread guy in a pro-style system) but Grier couldn't pull away with the job until the third game. Ultimately though, before his suspension we saw Grier grow a lot more comfortable in the offense - and things were clicking. UF seemingly had perhaps it's best QB since the Tim Tebow days (no, that's not a stretch considering how bad it's been).
Obviously gaining weight was one of the goals for Grier during his redshirt season and he successfully bulked up. An issue he had though that ultimately led to his redshirt (although that was the plan from the get-go) was a herniated disk he suffered while dead-lifting in the weight room. I don't think he had a surgical procedure on it but he let it heal. Shouldn't be an issue now but it's good to have some past knowledge on it if that ever flares up again." That injury occurred mid September 2014
