MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Feb. 7, 2024) – JJ Quinerly of the West Virginia women's basketball team is a member of the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Watch List, as announced Wednesday afternoon by Naismith Awards.

The elite group of names includes just 15 players from across the country. Quinerly is one of four selections from the Big 12, alongside BYU’s Lauren Gustin, Kansas’ Taiyanna Jackson and Kansas State’s Ayoka Lee.

A native of Norfolk, Virginia, Quinerly is the only player in the Big 12 averaging over three steals per contest. She leads the conference with 73 steals on the season for an average of 3.32 per game. Her 73 steals are 41 off the WVU program single season record of 114.

This season, Quinerly has produced 14 games with three or more steals and adds a game-high of eight. Her steals per game and total steals rank sixth and eighth in the country.

In just 83 collegiate appearances, Quinerly already ranks No. 11 in WVU history with 207 steals, while her 2.5 steals per game place seventh.
