‪• First time this young team faced serious adversity all year and they passed the test with flying colors. With so much youth on the team this is a GREAT sign. Big morale-booster and something they can draw upon in the future.
‪• Miles McBride coming out party. Kid was nails down the stretch. Like he had been there 100 times before. Might be a WVU great when it’s all said and done.
• Someone new seems to step up every game. The depth is fantastic, but it creates a difficult balancing act for the coaches. The constant substitutions really seem take us out of our flow. But it also wore UNI down. We looked so much more fresh than them down the stretch.
• UNI came in to tonight 330th out of 353 in tempo according to KenPom. We refused to push the ball after defensive rebounds for most of this game, playing right into their hands. We sped it way up for the final 10:00 and that was one of the biggest, if not the biggest, reason why we won. Just not a good scout of UNI’s pack-line esque defense.
• Many people comparing this game to the Missouri come-from-behind win in Orlando two years ago. JC & Dax put the team on their shoulders that night. Refused to let us lose. That’s the same tenacity Duece showed tonight. That game was a big springboard for the next month and a half, seeing WVU rise all the way to #2 in the country. Of course Esa then came back and threw it all out of whack. This team doesn’t appear to have any Esa’s though. Coachable group that wants to get better.
‪• Preseason tournaments can be ridiculously fluky, just win baby. 5-0.
