Totally agree we cannot fire a coach after every loss.

But how about 4 really BAD losses after 4 really BAD seasons. Total blowouts to a Baylor and TCU team that were over rated. OSU should have won. Worst KSU team in a decade with a WR playing QB.

And for that matter, what good team did we beat this year? That's right - not one. Best defense we've had in 5 years, maybe longer, and we cannot beat one good team?

No improvement over last year. In fact, we got blown out worse this year compared to big games last year. At least last year we beat Baylor and almost beat TCU. No development of Crest in three years. He constantly complains about our receivers not being good enough. Who's in charge of recruiting?

You are wasting your time will silly polls on a troll board. Most fans realize that you can't win every game in a power conference and you can't fire the coach after every loss.

Ridiculous - some day our fan base will adapt to being in a power conference. This team is going to a bowl game. Holgorsen still gives us our best chance for winning a championship in the Big 12 in the future. The other candidates mentioned on this board have been jokes. Be thankful for what you have and not being another Kansas.

Are there any WVU fans who are truly satisfied with a 7-5 record? I don't care if you're in the SEC, 7-5 is nothing to write home about. That puts WVU somewhere in the middle of 120+ teams since there are more teams with winning records than losing records (because they fatten up on the fellow losers).

I said "No". I am not a fan of Holgie, but his buyout is prohibitive. Don't give him an extension. Make him and his agent sweat a little. After next season, you have leverage, whether a great or mediocre season.

It is not a matter of if Holgorsen is going to get his contract extended, it is a matter of when. The longer Lyons waits, the more difficult it will be to recruit. There is also a lot of new head coaches in power conferences and we might lose some assistant coaches if Lyons doesn't act quickly.

I doubt Holgorsen or his agent will sweat about anything, it is seller's market for coaches.

What does recruiting have to do with contract extensions? Do you think the average recruit knows what Dana's contract says

Contract extensions are a big part of recruiting. If a school doesn't extend a HC's contract it is a sign they are on the hot seat. Opposing coaches negative recruit all the time. They tell kids you may sign with that school and the next year there will be a new HC. Sign with us and you don't run that risk. It's a real issue.

The article says that its questionable whether it works and the majority of our recruits are 3 stars that we hope become 5 stars. Its better not to give a contract extension to someone unless you are sold on them.

It works that is why everybody does it. It also says this...

"If you allow a recruiter to smell blood in the water, he's going to go for the kill," a Conference USA assistant who has worked previously in the SEC and the Big 12 said. "Talking about a coach's future at that school is one of the easiest ways to go negative, because it's so hard for them to defend. The coach can tell you he and his assistants are going to be OK, but all you have to point out is their record and talk about what people in the press are saying. Unless his athletic director has come out and said his job is safe, then you can use that to your advantage all day long."

Big 12 and / or National Championships are over rated. What do you have after you get both? Be satisfied with football for it's entertainment value. Look closer to your heart for the real value in life. Warez

^^^^^^^^^^Best post of the year!

(Be prepared for the attack though. The idiots on this board do not want t to hear this.)

I voted no. I was the 28th person to do so.

Instability in the coaching staff is the last thing the program needs.

The goal is to win a National Championship one day. Yes, I understand we are not Alabama, we are not going to compete year in and year out, our path to a Championship is more trying to catch a perfect storm than it is about just throwing money at the problem, but if a coach is not going ever give us a chance to compete at that level in atleast 1 of 6 years (lets face it, were clearly not going to be at that level next year given our losses) then they need to be discarded IMO. Coach Holgs just isnt good enough to break into the top 3 of this league. I would rather take a chance and have an outside shot at being dealt a 2-10 season because we atleast tried to upgrade, than sit here at 7-5 every December saying "well atleast were going to another 4th tier bowl game, cheers boys!".

Not even a hundred votes (board is dying). Aside form the silly trolls and low information fans (takes us down to about 12 posters), there should be a realization that there isn't any magic sorcerer out there that can instantly dominate the Big 12.

WVU needs better facilities (Lyons is working on it), better fan support (WVU could take a lesson from other Big 12 schools), and more play makers (a coaching merry-go-round isn't going to help that issue). The last thing we need to do is start dumping coaches just because we haven't climbed far enough up the ladder for some low info fans. Even with all of WVU's deficiencies, Holgorsens teams are competitive against most programs in the conference and we are getting better and better players. IMO we are on the right path and a Big 12 championship is in our future. Maybe even a playoff spot.

School Big 12 Overall Pct.

Oklahoma 11 - 1 .917
Oklahoma State 10 - 2 .833
TCU 10 - 2 .833
Baylor 9 - 3 .750

West Virginia 7 - 5 .583

Texas Tech 7 - 5 .583
Texas 5 - 7 .417
Kansas State 6 - 6 .500
Iowa State 3 - 9 .250
Kansas 0 - 12 .000

Terrible post. Filled with information and a reasonable perspective. Won't get you anywhere with these LIF's.

I like what you are drinking!

Our conference record is 15-21.

They are going to say negative things either way. If its not one thing it will be the other. Its not like where Alabama. A good many of our recruits don't have that many options to begin with

Last Clemson NC - 1981 - 34 years (Obviously keeping their coach)
Last Georgia NC - 1980 - 35 years (Fired their second all-time wins coach)
Last Colorado NC - 1990 - 25 years (Shared with Georgia Tech, which hasn't competed for another one since)
Last BYU NC - 1984 - 31 years (LaVell Edwards, remember him?)
Last Washington NC - 1991 - 24 years (Shared with Miami, which won again in 2001 and not since)
Last Notre Dame NC - 1988 - 27 years (And we remember their opponent)

My point is, the pursuit of the NC, and xWVU2010x's assertion of once every six years to be in the hunt, is more difficult than it may seem (nothing against xWVU2010x). However, to have a more competitive program than 1 game above .500 in the regular season and a winning conference record is not an unreasonable goal. How many would be complaining if we were indeed 8-4 or 9-3?

The method of the last loss has pushed me over the edge. 5 year of OTJ training, if you will, has "learned" this coach nothing. Time to move on.
