One thing I'll say about Rich Rodriguez 2.0 vs. the original version...

is that there is a humility in Rich right now that was 100% missing back in 2001. I was in my third year of law school when Rich was hired. I went to WVWC in undergrad and watched his Glenville teams firsthand. When he was hired at WVU in '01, he was as arrogant and self-righteous as any young collegiate head coach can possibly be. And his undying confidence in what he was doing is what led us to great heights back then. But it was his self-righteousness mixed with that utter confidence that led to his downfall, ungraceful exit, and messy decade+ that followed.

Here we are almost 25 years later from his '01 hire, and this guy, Rich 2.0, is nothing like that guy back in 2001. From watching his Three Guys interviews, to his introductory presser, his post-practice pressers, etc., he is a changed coach. He's still confident - don't get me wrong. He still believes what he is doing. But, he's been humbled.

How does that help us now? He's here for the right reasons. He'll stay for all of the right reasons, he has the battle scars to show he knows better. And I think he legitimately is driven to right perhaps the most grievous wrong in the history of this football program. I'm writing this post because a video by Rich just popped up on my FB feed, and I had to chuckle...he never would've done this ad back in '01...it was something about "earned success".

I don't think this 2025 version of WVU football will be anything great. But, I do think that they'll play damn hard. And I'll take that. After this year, I think he's going to succeed. The days of losing by 5 touchdowns in Lubbock and 4 touchdowns in Ames are over.

Just my two pennies on a Tuesday.
