Now we know why we opted out of the NIT

Freedom to look at other opportunities. Anyone could see this coming. It’s BS
Exactly. Wouldn't even had a coach or players.

4th coach in 4 years is a disastrous program. Makes it hard to recruit and get portal players especially when you have to hire a new guy every year.

Wren Baker didn't hand Bob Huggins alcohol and tell him drive.

He tried to get Calhoun after Bob firing but he didn't want to leave his team a month before season started. Pretty sure he didn't tell Devries go to Indiana.

I'll take Wren Baker over our previous 2 AD's any day.
No one was a bigger screwup than Shane Lyons handing the football program to Kneel Clown except for the era of Fast Eddie.

Now everyone understands why Huggins had the contract he had. Not having to deal with this shit every year and being a near lock every year for the tournament is worth every penny. The positive is we get buyout money and showing that we are putting our hires in a better position than when they got here will give us a chance to get someone good again, but we are going to keep going through this. We need to make peace with the idea of being a program like Xavier where we will be saying goodbye to our coach every couple of years and build the program in a way that it can sustain those hits rather than building the program around a coach.

Devries is stepping into a powder keg at Indiana. He might end up wishing he had stayed or he might build a power.

There’s a reason they haven’t won consistently since Knight. Idk what the reason actually is, but something is up with the water there, because a “blue blood” that is one of like 6 big money schools that prefer basketball to football shouldn’t suck that often.

They fired Huggins for something they protected him for over 20 years without even letting the court case play out. They ran off his best "on paper" roster he may have ever had here. Karma has a way of coming back around. The tiny penis club can whine and cry about Huggs all they want but the fact is, they handled that situation about as bad as an administration could've. Somehow all this is no surprise. Bad leadership leads to bad things. At least Gee is gone now. That's a good thing. Karma sucks. Huggs is WVU through and through, drunkeness and all, and it's not even close. That dude built the new facilities by raising money on his own time. He did more for WVU basketball than the school itself did. Only fools forget all he did to build this place up. The same fools who whine about loyalty of course.

wait till football season..WVU ranks first in new players (59) and dead last in returning production/starters (136)...only 15 fall practices allowed to throw a team together....if we lose to Ohio U and Pitt back to back the wolfpack can rent some more billboards or something😥

Honestly we should call Huggins and see if he is open to being a bridge coach. Look at SJU with Pitino, countless other similar stories before him, these old timers on their last legs and a chip on their shoulder are dangerous. Give him a 2 year deal and an opportunity to right his legacy before retirement so long as he has a tangible plan to get a decent roster together right away.

I agree and think it would be a good idea. I think he was planning on retiring soon anyway before he got fired. He wants to right his legacy I have no doubt. Plus he's sober now and looks better than he has in a long time. He did more than any coach in any sport to build the program up.

Huggins had a hired driver and was not to get behind the wheel. Part of the contract. He began slipping in his final years and recruiting was horrible. He is now 72. Don't forget the racial slurs and demeaning of Xavier a former rival at Cincinnati on a local radio show. He would be an embarrassing rehire and would fail. I would go after Chester Frazier before Bob Huggins washed up carrier. Huggins has nobody to blame but himself so quit trying to pin his screw ups on WVU. He had it made and did nothing after 2010. I will never be on his bandwagon again due to his stupidity.

Oh and his #1 enemy EGG is here until July 1, 2025 so there's that mess he would have to deal with.

John Beilein should have some fun with this since he's an analyst on the B10 Basketball TV network..and this does feel eerily similar to 2006 in basketball and 2007 in football...do we still despise Michigan?

He’s 1 year younger than Pitino and is obviously sober as evidenced by his weight loss. Idk why it’s far fetched for Pitino to come back from hiring hookers to help entice recruits to play for Louisville on top of the whole Karen Sypher thing vs Huggins coming back from a DUI now that he is demonstrably sober.

If he is still engaged in the game and can get some players to come with him it’s worth considering especially if we don’t have a slam dunk alternative right now. The only good thing with the Eilert year is we had a whole season to basically scout coaches, we don’t have that luxury now and are now thrust into just trying to hire a flavor of the month coach who wins a few games unexpectedly this weekend.

Who cares about Gee, that guy is a disgrace and on the way out, no way anyone takes what he has to say into consideration.

All the personal baggage aside, Huggins just doesn’t have it anymore. Whether the game just passed him by or not is debatable. In my opinion, his days of winning at a high level are gone. It’s time to move on.

He coached us to a 9 seed while apparently drunk all the time according to this board which is *checks notes* better than what the current coach of Indiana got us. If he’s sober and motivated give him 2 years.

We need new blood. I’m thankful for what he gave us here at WVU, but it’s time to move on.

This hire can’t be a miss. Huggins is a sure thing and will allow this program to get its footing again. With enrollment dropping, academic majors getting cut, this isn’t the time for the basketball program to go into the shitter for a decade like Pitt.

If RR can’t turn FB around we can kiss any chance of that program generating buzz again goodbye anytime in the next decade which IMO is already a far fetched idea. That sport is for the SEC and B1G now. We might win the Big XII once a century in its current form. Basketball has to be the program that competes nationally to give us some level of relevance.

We can agree to disagree on Huggins. Everything else you said is spot on.

I agree with this sentiment. But I also can see a possibility Huggs will be hired. I won't ever speak badly about WVU unlike fake fans and will support whoever the next coach will be.

I'll pass on Huggins and do not believe he can turn it back to what it was 8 to 10 years ago.

nah, I don't think you're that bad..however, RR saying "I never should have left", is not an apology, it's a regret.
Truly obvious you don't listen. I bet you were the heckler that was escorted out and the crowd roaring in response.

Maybe he can't. But one thing about Huggins is that he loved his guys and they loved him back. They'd run through a brick wall for him. And the ones that didn't/wouldn't, didn't stick around long (no dead weight).

Are you prepared for sub .500 seasons?

The biggest misconception or misinformation about Huggs was that he "lost it" towards the end of his career. He had 16 seasons at WVU. Here is the breakdown from the first 8 seasons and the last 8 seasons.

First 8 Seasons: 165-91 (64% winning percentage)
Last 8 Seasons: 198-102 (66% winning percentage)

"Blue blood" is not forever. If you have enough down years, you will lose that status. Look at Nebraska in football as an example. IU is the same in basketball. Someone could rebuild it, but it would be a rebuild and not a continuation as it will be for whomever replaces self at KU.

You folks need a Midol.

Two days ago when he was leaving for Iowa, it was A-OK. He was "going home" and everybody was wishing him nothing but the best.

Now, he's a bum. For going to a storied program in arguably a better conference and a better paying one at that.

Wow... how terrible. Woe is us...
