Steve Sabins held his introductory press conference and here are a few things that stood out
- He will still coach third base, but the game management duties will shift as Mazey was in charge of pitching and running the offense. Pitching control will shift, while Sabins will manage the offense
- He still wants to recruit, however he will mostly be in charge of portal recruiting, splitting up high school recruiting duties to others on the staff
- Mazey will still be involved as an advisor to the program and Sabins will still have input from Mazey
- Sabins said WVU as a brand is easier to sell with the amount of success they have had recently, but will not sacrifice team culture or chemistry just to get a better player. He also added that the high school baseball recruiting landscape is not all that accurate and WVU has always and will always go after the best players in the country
- Sabins wants to continue to find the people that will match the culture and want to develop at WVU
- Sabins mentioned roster management right now is tricky with the portal deadline (July 2), MLB Draft (who is draft eligible, who gets drafted), as well as high school commit numbers and transfer numbers
More to come in the next few days on all of this
