Just as the university once had an opening for a head basketball coach and Bob Huggins was available to "come home," his tenure at WVU, although not ending as many had hoped, still boasted a national reputation and winning percentage that were unparalleled by any other candidate we could have attracted.

Now, the football team finds itself in a similar situation. There's a head coaching prospect who has secured a D-I national title, recruited 4- and 5-star players, and triumphed at the highest level of collegiate competition in the SEC. Rumor has it, he's looking to return home.

It's widely acknowledged that WVU, among other universities, is grappling with the financial demands of the new industry structure. Coach Jimbo Fisher represents a bold move that could potentially place us in the most favorable financial position conceivable.

Jimbo Fisher is a no brainer hire for WVU. Question is, can they mutually agree and work out a contract?

Jimbo is washed up and finished, IMO. But I wouldn't say no if they hired. They should be prepared for him to leave in 3 years if he turns it around quickly. West Virginia native, Jimbo Fisher, is among the favorites to take over the Mountaineers when Brown is inevitably fired.

Barry Odom has been mentioned as a replacement and is good friends with Wren. Not my favorite and would be very skeptical of this hire. Barry at Missouri from 2016 to 2019 compiled a 25-25 record. While that didn't end well, Coach Odom has quickly revitalized his career in Las Vegas. Problem might be we are replacing one Brown for another.

Glenn Schumann, who is the current defensive coordinator for the Georgia Bulldogs, is only 34 years old and considered one of the brightest young coaches in college sports and is a former staff member under Nick Saban at Alabama.

Colin Klein, another young coach at only 35 years old, is the current offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Texas A&M. Klein is a former starting quarterback at Kansas State and has experience in the Big 12.

Then there is the story with Rodriguez and if he would be a good decision for WVU. Lot of things would need to be settled for that to happen. Fans would be split, which they have been for some time now. but one thing that brings it all back together is winning. Could he repeat what he did first time around. Maybe with the right players like he did with Pat White.

Jimbo has no ties to WVU other than being born in Clarksburg WV.

If Neal Brown contract is terminated then WVU would owe him 13.5 million. I believe that's down to 9 million or so now. Terminating Brown Could potentially be the most financially prudent in WVU history. Reports suggest that donors already have the money for a buyout. They could get away with paying Fisher less than 2 million if he would agree to that. It's not like he would need the money.

So from a financial standpoint he would be the best option.

That is actually incorrect. Jimbo recently bought a large farm in north central WV. His family still lives here.

Similar to Nick Saban, Jimbo Fisher also grew up following West Virginia University football - which helps tie into a recent interview in which has said that he was happy at other places, but "home is home". Fisher was making the point that he would always listen and entertain the possibility of coaching at WVU.

My wife’s family knows the Fishers quite well. It would not shock me to see him take the WVU job if mutually agreed upon. Like I said, he’s recently bought a large farm back here in North Central WV.

Basically depends on what his expectations and ego are at his age.

If he wants to get back to something he enjoyed, and picking here as a landing spot is more of a passion project than anything else, then I say yes let’s roll the dice.

If he is just looking for the fattest contract available to him and a springboard back into a premium SEC job then he can kick rocks. I’d rather take a shot on a first time HC again then have our financially strapped University that is cutting classes and faculty left and right pay a mercenary who could easily shit the bed and make things even worse than they already are.

Obviously it’s tough to know someone’s true intentions until they arrive, but this would be an instant credibility hire that gives us a chance to compete in a wide open conference so long as he is in it because he is passionate about his home state school.

Bring in Jimbo if he will do it. Rumors are that he's interested but rumors may not be true. If he wants the job, get it done tho, imo.

If he doesn't want it look at Chadwell or Rich Rod and i know RR is highly unlikely to even make the list. It is what it is. I would probably rather give Odom's oc a chance instead of him. Just don't see it with him tbh, but whoever they hire i will give a chance including him.

Either way hopefully a new coach is on the horizon for WVU after this season. If Neil Brown sticks around it's just going to be more ugly bullshit. I believe if he hired the right coaches he could do better but he should have done that. It's been 6 years of this garbage. His defensive coordinator was why he was successful at Troy and he got run out of here by high school player from Charleston.

Why is he a no brainer? UNC just fired Mack Brown and the several articles I have seen mentioning possible replacements don't include Fisher. It shouldn't be that hard to work out a contract with someone that nobody wants.
