I would have to see it defeat a ceramic plate to believe it. That takes rounds made of certain material and has little to do with the caliber. The concept of the ,277 fury isn't new. They have been playing with the 6.8 for awhile. It may work out. Obviously the government isn't going to pay Sig 8,000 dollars a gun however it will be more than previous guns and ammo cost. I would like to see what the barrel life will be. The 6.5 grendel has been out for almost twenty years now. Should have went to that along time ago. Guess we will see. I think going to the Sig Sauer pistol they are currently using was not a good move. But that just my preference and I'm sure the younger generation likes it because it weighs less than the Beretta or 1911.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Very few so called 'assault weapons ' are involved in mass shootings and many more semi-automatic rifles with extended magazines are involved in successful home defense.

That's all an 'assault weapon' is, a small caliber scary looking rifle with an extended magazine. My .270, .308. and .30-06 are all 3 more powerful but they are classified as hunting rifles. They sell cars to the public that can go 180 mph but that doesn't mean you have to go that fast.

If you don't want an AR-15, don't buy one, but don't tell me I can't. Unless you bust through the front or back doors of my home you will never see it except at the range. Nobody will. Make it unlawful to carry it on the street, that's fine. But stay out of my well reinforced and secure gun closet.

The 7.62 goes back to the 50’s, so nothing new there.

The SPEAR, initially offered in .277 FURY (6.8 x 51) is easily converted to both 7.62 NATO and 6.5 Creedmoor.

It's a 6.8x51. It's an intermediate caliber like the 6.8 SPC and 6.5 Grendel and not an AR-10 like the 6.5 Creedmoor or 308. The 6.5 grendel and 6.5 Creedmoor are both 6.5 but do have not the same capabilities. That's like comparing a 243 win to a 6mm ARC. Will it be more effective than the 5.56 out side of urban conflict? Yes but that's not saying much. The person writing the article is trying to scare people without understanding ballistics and whats already available. Failure drills and optics defeat all body armor so there's that factoid for liberals to chew on.

Look forward to seeing the real training and operational barrel life and how expensive that gets. There alot of calibers that are ballistically better than the 5.56 and 308. However they eat barrels. So this might end up being an expensive adventure.
