I didn't think failure was supposed to pay ...but I guess now a days it does. And there's no way he gets another coaching gig after this debacle....no one could be that desperate.

Coaching buyouts have been around for a long, long time. The reverse is also in play where if the coach leave, he has to pay that much as well. So it protects both the coach and the university.
