--First live media interaction and hopefully they can stay like this. Split squads and Brown felt that his team had a lot of energy. They got more total reps and coaching.

--Entire practice will be open tomorrow and they’ll be in the stadium.

--Following guys are out Mike O’Laughlin (minor injury), Ja’Corey Hammett (recovering from ACL) and Naim Muhammad will be out recovering from off-season surgery.

--Evan Staley kicked in practice today. COVID-19 is alive and well but a high percentage of the team is vaccinated although it’s not 100-percent. Still social distancing indoors.

--Jaylen Anderson is not here yet but everybody else is here and they are hopeful he will be arriving.

--Brown said that from now until Aug. 24 they are in camp mode. They could redshirt second year guys who played last year.

--Physically they have the best in the country from a strength and conditioning standpoint. Jarret Doege has changed his body and is under 10-percent body fat and Akheem Mesidor has changed his body.

--Offensive line looks a lot better in how they look. The first six guys look the part on defensive line. The young guys in the secondary have to come on.

--Doug Nester is a lot more confident than he was at any time in the spring. He wanted to make sure he earned his spot. Lance Dixon at WILL linebacker he is what you want athletically. Deshawn Stevens is a proven player and fits what they want to do. Big physical guy. Charles Woods is a quicker learner. Darel Middleton will stick out and is a lot leaner than what he played last year.

--Nester is playing more at guard.

--Bodies look better. What they need from Yates is some urgency. Parker Moorer had a good off-season and understands what they try to do. Wyatt Milum will be in the mix, too.

--Last year they had a lot of energy because people had been cooped up. There was a joy about playing early.

--The team has a good mix of veterans and youth and the youth is hungry and the leadership is better than it’s been.

--Brown has no crystal ball but he does know that West Virginia has been in a lot of conferences and had success. He can’t foresee where that will be but he expects they will be in a good landing spot. They’ll handle the changes.

--It’s time for Exree Loe. He’s been one of the best special teams players for three years. Moved Josh Chandler to MIKE and Loe is competing with Dixon.

--Caleb Coleman can play spear and safety.

--Wanted to add maybe one more defensive back. He feels good about what they have but they’ll have to play some freshmen in the defensive backfield.

--Right now Tony Mathis would be the number two back. Justin Johnson will be a factor.
