Lot of projections sending us to Dayton, I would understand that if it happened, the ace in the hole for us is that traditionally movement based on conference tournament performance is overblown and we were up to a 9 before the Colorado loss. We’ll see.
That Colorado loss really was the final torpedo in the resume for the committee. I remember a good little NIT run from Beilein.
Yea, if Iowa offers he should go. Now 0/1 on NCAA bids right or wrong he’s basically a bad season away from the hot seat. We really are just a cursed AD, hopefully Rich Rod can reverse the bad juju.
Correct. But my opinion differs that I don't expect RR to do anything positive that matters in this season
From what I see of teams that got in even if we beat Colorado we're still not getting in.
If I'm WVU I tell NIT to shove it. Tournament is worthless. Then I complain to the Big 12 because it's obvious they didn't fight for us at all.
If DeVries is in fact our coach next year, and Small has enough NIL reasons to stay on campus, then you play the damned tournament. If DeVries is leaving and Small is going to play professionally in the NBA or elsewhere, then ditch the tournament.
If I'm Small and have a shot at the NBA I'm gone no matter who the coach is in NIT.
It’s different now. $500k for college ball and a chance to boost your NBA stock, or 50% chance to land on an NBA roster and $200k in Greece if you don’t… lot of players thinking twice.
We won an Orange Bowl and made a Final Four shortly after Rod left. Our problems are a combination of bad hires (football) and bad luck (basketball) it’s causing a black cloud on the AD. Basketball funds the best transfer class in the country for Huggins and he pisses it all away on a DUI, we respond with a home run hire who brings his son to anchor the team and he gets a season ending injury right when we’re starting to cook. Football just made a bad hire, idk how else to explain the Brown era, he was just the perfect level of mediocre which made it so much worse and prolonged.
I think we have an AD now that knows how to hire coaches. If anyone can talk Devries into staying it's Wren. But stopping someone from going to their dream job and home state. Will be near impossible. But I trust he will make another good hire if Devries goes.
If there is any positive to this team missing the tournament, it means DeVries has probably lost some shine in the pool of potential coaches when we realistically had a best case scenario of a round of 64 exit anyway, but our ceiling next year is much higher.
Should just go ahead and play a weaker schedule as well. Considering it doesn't matter to Committee.
