WVU Release Mountaineers Set for Big 12 Championship

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (May 21, 2023) – The Co-Big 12 Champion West Virginia baseball team has earned the No. 3 seed at the 2023 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship.

The Mountaineers' postseason slate begins against No. 6-seeded Texas Tech on Wednesday, May 24, at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. First pitch is set for 8:30 p.m. ET.

The winner of the opening-day matchup moves on to play the winner of the No. 2 Oklahoma State-No. 7 Oklahoma game on Thursday, May 25, at 8:30 p.m., while the two losing teams will meet in an elimination game on Thursday at 1:30 p.m.

West Virginia finished 39-16 in regular-season play this spring, including 15-9 in conference play, finishing in a three-way tie with Texas and Oklahoma State at the top of the standings as WVU earned its first Big 12 title in program history. The Mountaineers have won multiple games at the Big 12 Championship in six of the last nine tournaments, including five of the last six. West Virginia also has advanced to the semifinals four times since 2016, with two championship-game appearances (2016, 2019).

It is the second year that the Big 12 Championship heads to the home of the Texas Rangers. Tickets remain available for the event through TexasRangers.com/Big12, with all-session tickets for adults starting at $130 before fees. Weekend passes (Fri-Sun) are also available, priced at $90 for adults, and single-day tickets run $25-$45 for adults and $15-35 for youth.
