WVU Release Mountaineers Compete at GARC Championship this Weekend

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Feb. 23, 2024) – The No. 1-ranked West Virginia University rifle team continues postseason action when they head to the Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) Championship on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 24-25. The competition is set to take place at the Tronsrue Marksmanship Center in West Point, New York.



Saturday starts with smallbore competition with three relays and finals taking place. Sunday's competition will feature air rifle action with two relays and finals taking place throughout the day. The top 8 competitors from both smallbore and air rifle relays will earn a spot in their respective finals.



The first smallbore relay will begin at 8:30 a.m. ET on Saturday, the second relay will follow at 10:45 a.m. and the third at 1:15 p.m. The finals are set for 3 p.m. The first air rifle relay on Sunday will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the second relay will follow at 10:30 a.m. with finals set for 12:30 p.m.

The Mountaineers are in pursuit of their 16th GARC Championship title. WVU is looking for back-to-back titles after claiming the championship last season. The Mountaineers have won 12 of the past 14 titles including 10 straight from 2010-2019.



West Virginia looks to sweep the GARC titles after winning the regular season with a perfect 6-0 record. The Mountaineers have won both the GARC regular season and tournament title in the same year 11 times in program history.
