Texas Tech is the #1 team in passing yardage with 544 yards per game.

Texas Tech is #2 behind #1 Louisville in total yardage with 3,249 yards (about 2 miles!).

West Virginia is #18 nationally in defense yardage at 1,674, which includes yards against non-starters later in the games. Texas Tech is #70 at 2,225 yards.

West Virginia is #109 in rushing yardage at 749. Texas Tech is #125 at 529.

West Virginia is #103 in third-down conversions, an important category. Texas Tech is #51. That one could come back to bite us on Saturday. Gibby needs to get the troops ready for that one.

West Virginia is #46 in defense efficiency, Texas Tech #114. That difference between Gibby’s defense and the Red Raiders’ pourous defense might bite TT in the butt.

Not a surprising observation: Tech will live and die with its offense. WVU's chances rest heavily on how Gibby's defense restrains that offense. Sure, Skyler needs to have a good game. But Gibby's gang needs to have a better one to keep my alma mater undefeated.

Take home....we need to be better in the red zone and thrid down. If we can score TDs on 50% of our red zone opportunities, then we will be OK.

IMO both issues relate to our philosophy in short yardage....which is largely built on deception. The problem is it doesn't fool anyone. If we truly have the best OL in the B12, then we should have to disguise nothing. Feed the damn ball to Wellman more than once a game and exert our will on the other team. That is when play action really works.

IMO TT is awful on defense and we should start this approach THIS WEEK.
