Lathan off the board

I can see C.J. spending a lot of time on the bench due to injuries, if for no other reason.

I listened to one podcast where he was being discussed, and it was pointed out that he needs a lot of encouragement as he seems to be a sensitive type person. I am sure he got that from Chad Scott but don't know if he'll get that in Columbus. Doubtful. They paid him money and want to see results. (And no, I'm not questioning his physical skills or toughness. He looked plenty tough in the bowl game.)

Neither did I , he did say he won’t start and maybe get 3 carries a game, so yes I do think that Funny to predict.
I don't know why you would find that hard to believe. He wasn't even WVU's best back and OSU gets their pick of the absolutely best. If he doesn't start then getting a small number of carries each game is the likely outcome.

Put CJ behind a superior OL and anything is possible with him being successful, he been playing RB for what now 3 years and still is raw, let’s see what happens next year before you and MM says he won’t play.

Because a RB that lost his spot at WVU doesn’t go to Ohio State to start. He goes there for the payday. Just sad he gave up on a potential future in football for the payday right now. This money will run out.

But again, that’s what college football is now. Development is the worst it’s ever been. Can’t imagine their studies are much better since they are switching universities each year.

CJ actually talked about giving up football in the past so I'm not sure how much he wants to play anyway. I would assume they paid him around $800k to $1M. It's hard to pass on that. But he may have been able to get similar money from a team that would use him more. They think they have their starter for next year and he'll be the second or third guy but that could change a lot between now and next season.

Gone back and forth on this. Think it would work but then CJ is such a bull that has to get a head of steam up. I love that but is he going to wait, plant a foot and go? I don't know. Would have liked to have found out. Lol..

Imagine NIL so flush that you can afford that kind of $ for a backup.

I think he was a good RB for WVU. However, I wouldn’t want the CRT to pay him 1/3 of that.

How do you know he won’t play?? Can you predict that now?
Their RBs recently have been Ezekiel Elliot, J.K. Dobbins, TreVeyon Henderson, and Quinshon Judkins. Do you honestly think he’s as talented as them? They’re going to keep getting blue chip RB recruits.

Nothing definitive, but I’d say it’s a pretty good bet that CJ won’t be a go-to player for Ohio State. The guy is a converted tight end with mediocre speed and burst. Keep a close eye on the running backs Ohio State will have on the field this weekend and tell me that CJ is in that league.

Do you really think they paid him $800k+? I find that shocking if true. I figured maybe $400k or so for two reasons. One, I don’t think RB’s are as valuable as some other positions on a team (good RB’s aren’t as hard to find as a good WR, QB, left tackle, etc). And, two, it’s hard to believe OSU would give CJ what would be 4-5% of their total NIL budget (assuming around $20m total).
I double down on my shock if I assume they don’t even project him as a definite starter.

I was only told it was an "absurd" amount. I assumed $500k but some OSU people say it was higher. I don't understand why they would pay that type of money but I guess when you have it, you spend it

These are crazy times indeed.

I think CJ had a unique opportunity here. He became a running back when he had no intention of being one. He had some success. No denying he had great attributes. But, he is not a RB that has been coached as one outside of his WVU time.

Is he that big of a talented physical phenomenon that can become a go to back? Yes. Will it occur at OSU where there is so much talent in numbers with more experience at being a RB?m I don't think so.

From a playing and excelling perspective, WVU/RR is/was the answer. From a pay day and long-shot to excel perspective, OSU is the answer.

He made his choice.

**** Lathan. Miss me with that, “once a mountaineer always a mountaineer” garbage. He absolutely quit on this team in the Tech game. Good riddance.
