Latest odds on making the Big Dance

Since 1997, in basketball and football, Marshall plays among the nation's weakest schedules and it fools Herd fans every time. I doubt they'll ever get it.

Wait until you get wind of how the CUSA basketball tournament is being played this year. Hell, I'll go ahead and tell you. Playing once again in the Cowboy's football practice facility, which seats about 12,000, which will be 10,000 more seats than they will need. Two courts will be setup on the field, with a large curtain at the 50 yard line, which will divide the two courts. Games will be staggered by 30 minutes, but there will still be two games going on most of the time. If you're fortunate enough to get a seat on the 50 yard line, then you may be able to view both games.

I don't think I've seen anything like this, since playing in an 8th grade tournament at Woodrow Wilson High School back in the early 1970's.

That's crazy two games at the same time but guess I shouldn't expect anything else out of this bunch! The C-USA Tournament should be in Nashville every year....at least it's centrally located to most of the league. I've given up on the " leadership" of this conference.

I don't think they could find a venue to hold the women's tournament, so they had to play both at Jerry's practice facility, so playing two at a time enables them to get all of the games in within a 4 day window. Pretty lame if you ask me.

...almost as lame as the C-USA TV contract! The on the Field/Court product of the league is not that bad but nobody gets to see the product....we need a new Commisioner or to get back in the MAC.

Reality is that the entire landscape of college athletics needs to be reconfigured. Conference realignment has ruined so many things over the years. I kind of feel for the cousins, having to compete down in the Southwest part of the country, but those were the cards dealt. Hope I live long enough to see all this madness end, and get back to regional rivalries.

Not sure I'm fond of the MAC, but for sure, it's a better deal than CUSA. Would like to see the Herd blended in with a few of the current CUSA members, as well as a few from the MAC, and maybe sprinkle in a couple American teams, all within a reasonable drive. Maybe the cousins could join that league as well, since being mandated to play a sporting event would be the only way they would lace them up.

Don't shed too many tears for us in that regard. The 35 million dollar paycheck the Big XII sends us every year more than makes up for an extra hour on a plane.

You can't be serious if you think for a moment that we would leave the P-5 so that we could join a conference featuring a bunch of MAC teams and Marshall.......[pfftt]
But I do think that Marshall should get back in the MAC, provided the MAC would have them. I don't see any benefit at all in their relationship with CUSA.

They'd take us back in a heartbeat and that's where we should be, IMHO. But I'm also in the minority in that Point of View.

I don't think the MAC is as good as C-USA on the field/court. But travel and natural rivals would be enhanced.

Last I heard was that the MAC payout to it's members was over $800,000 a year.............CUSA's payout to it's members is about $200,000. Big difference. Plus the MAC gets some TV exposure, albeit on weeknights.

They'd take us back in a heartbeat

And just why would they want to do that ?

I have no idea what the entrance fee for joining the MAC would be, but unless I'm wrong Marshall would have to pay nearly $6 million to leave CUSA. I doubt that the Marshall athletic program could afford either the buyout or the entrance fee.

They should have just stayed in the MAC while they were there.

I agree we should have stayed, C-USA made some sense when U of L and UC were members but it was clear they were going to jump to the Old Big East as soon as VPI and 'cuse defected. Old grudges got in the way of clear thinking, IMHO. However, I think the product especially in 2017-18 is better in C-USA.

Back to the OP's thread title...........................It's obvious that Marshall is going to have to win the CUSA tournament to get a bid in the Big Dance, but as I see it they have a decent chance of getting an invite to the NIT.

I don't know Buzz, WKU and ODU have fine records and beat us twice, they look to have a big edge in getting into the NIT unless C-USA can somehow get two bids which seems remote!

paying that 200 grand to your football teams really screwed basketball...maybe they should find some outdoor courts....seating is about the same

I attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony in Frisco when the Cowboys opened their new Headquarters 1 1/2 years ago. The Ford Center is more than a practice facility; it is a 12,000 seat dome football stadium, with locker rooms tricked out by Nike. The local high schools team play football there.

that's about 11000 more seats than they needed
