We are going to need Jon Powell to step up his game from here on out. I know he is a freshman, but it is what it is. Tucker DeVries is done. Gonzo. Just teasing us sitting on that bench. But we obviously lost a ton with his shutting down the season.
The one thing DeVries did at least 3 times a game was get deflections on defense, that often led to live ball turnovers and run-outs.
Powell is playing a lot of minutes now - led the team on Wednesday with 36 - and rightfully so. But, he needs to start filling up the stat sheet. He's shot 13 free throws TOTAL on the season. That needs to increase dramatically. His high rebound game is 5 vs. Bethune-Cookman. He needs to hit the glass. And he needs to be a factor on Defense.
Javon Small needs help, and Powell is the guy who could help the most. He needs to change from a spot-up guy, to become a threat to take opposing bigs off of the bounce, or to post opposing guards. We really need him to hit double-figures from here on out, each game, which will be huge to free up Small. .
