It is a great day to be a Pitt fan.

Indeed! What are you and the other 3 fans gonna do to whoop it up before the bowl game?

After selling out our bowl tickets in 5 days, and selling the 3 subsequent requests for more tickets, I would say doing well. The 2 commits we got today might attest to the optimism we all feel. :)

Most of your bowl tickets were charity purchases made after a desperate plea from your new athletic director. Based on history, it is very doubtful that many Pitt fans will actually go to the game.

And after being near the bottom of power conference schools in recruiting last year ( near 0-12 Kansas ), it is easy to see why Pitt fans become overly jubilant everytime they hear of a new verbal commitment.

Down by 25 in the fourth quarter, Houston staged a memorable rally in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl.

Does this mean you guys won't have to resort to doing your Spring Game in a High School stadium?

Or let me put this another way. ...

Let me know how you guys are doing in whatever year we actually play you guys again. Otherwise get off my lawn because I couldn't give a crap.

Such anger... That isn't very Christian of you. Enjoy the cactus bowl.

Anger? Those are some of the nicest replies on this board in weeks. No one even said a word about your rental stadium or your urban ghetto campus. Merry Christmas.

What do you mean "other 3 fans gonna do"?

Sal died about a year back and Vinny is in poor health now too. That leaves only 1 other pitt fan (known as "the other guy") to go on the road for a pitt bowl game. They beat everyone in terms of leg room.

Enjoy it. The best days for Pitt fans are often when Pitt doesn't play.

December 28, won't be as good if you lose again to a mid-major as you did to Houston and SMU. I suppose, however that thrilling win over Bowling Green in 2013 was a great day by Pitt's recent standards.

WE may be at low point, but Pitt hasn't been to a major bowl since the Fiesta Bowl where Utah smacked you around following the 2004 season. We've been to and won three since then. You haven't won a major bowl since the 1982 Sugar.

34 years is a long time, so define those great days in other terms and enjoy them.

Hopefully, your recruiting is going as well as ours is.

Good for you, now go talk about with someone who actually gives a shit. We don't compete with you anymore so none of us care. Talk to me about recruits when they actually pan out. Remember Shane Hale?

Sure, where do you wanna start? Remember Tyler Boyd, how about Dorian Johnson, Adam Bisnowaty, Aaron Donald, et al.

We don't compete? You offered Bricen Garner, Rashad Wheeler, Therran Coleman, George Hill, Henry Miller, Zach Williams, Phil Campbell, Zach Gilbert, Chase Pine, Kaezon Pugh (remember him?) and they all choose Pitt over wvu. I'd say we compete.

I think that "22" meant on the field. It may be exciting for Pitt fans that they aren't competing with Kansas for the lowest ranked recruiting class in the power conferences like last year, but I doubt anyone cares on this board.

Panda Really? You are not a fan with only 4 posts. You are what is called a want a be Pitt fan. I tell you what, go back to the Pitt board an impress them with this posting how great Pitt is. If you have not notice WVU is in the Big 12 and could less about Pitt. Run home

LSUTigersRoar, if WVU didn't care about Pitt, then they wouldn't have agreed to play the Backyard Brawl again. Personally, I am not a fan of WVU, but I respect what they were when we were rivals. If you are expecting me to flame or degrade WVU, then you are mistaken. WVU was good when the Big East needed a leader after the first ACC raid. I hated seeing Pat White and Slaton have so much success against Pitt, but as fellow conference members I always cheered for them in bowl games. Does this make me less of a Pitt fan that I don't hate WVU? I don't know, but I think life is too short to be full of hate. Good luck to LSU in whatever bowl game you went to.

Funny, so I am to believe that 10's of thousands of your fans will travel to Florida to watch Pitt, but won't drive across the city of Pittsburgh to watch them play.

Ok, I tried to be nice, but you just want to be difficult. So be it, but remember that I took the high road and didn't insult anyone.

You've never ever won a National Championship in football.

True and wvu still gets more respect nationally now in down years than Pitt gets. Wvu has been the better and more respected program for quite some time that's why pittie fans are over here. But keep telling us about how that nc is helping you now.

Funny thing is WVU plays a tougher teams than Pitt in The ACC, Pitt has a winning record but who did they beat? WVU has been a power team now let us see if the coach can get this train gong or will it stall in 2016. Pitt is a one time show, yeah enjoy being in Bowl this year because next season will be so great for Pitt.

You've never ever won a National Championship in football.

And Pitt has never won a BCS Bowl. Pitt - 0 WVU - 3 (Orange, Fiesta, and Sugar and all within the last 20 years). Princeton claims 28 National Football Championships and couldn't beat Kansas in 2015. What does that say?

Why wouldn't WVU want to revive the Backyard Brawl ? It is essentially an extra home game since there will be more WVU fans than Pitt fans at Heinz Field. How many other programs enjoy the luxury of having home game atmosphere at the other guys place? For Pitt, only WVU and Notre Dame can be counted on to fill the sea of empty mustard colored seats that is normal for a Pitt game.

Your empty seats looked much better for your last home game.

That was an embarrassing turnout, no doubt, but that was an exception. I doubt you will ever see that become the norm as it is for a Pitt home game. I've read posts on the Pitt board where it was suggested by Pitt fans to use tarps to cover the entire upper levels at Heinz Field as an attempt to not look so bad on TV. I don't think that will ever happen at Mountaineer Field.

Going back to WWII, which is way before I was born, and I'm pretty old, Pitt has 1 national title to our zero. I'm old enough to remember 1976 but, I wasn't even in college yet and many people were either not born yet or are not old enough to remember it. It's beginning to be a boring story of glory days.

After a slow start you guys dominated the Backyard brawl in the early days. By 1956, you had a 37-11-1. advantage. We lead 29-24-2 since then which is probably beyond the lifetimes of everyone here discussing this.

Over the past 30 years, we lead 16-9-2. The last 20, we lead 11-6. The last 10, we lead 5-2. You owned the first half of the 20th Century. Since then, we have done better and, as you can see, our advantage grows stronger the more recent a period you choose.

Props on your domination in the leather helmet days. I'll admit I'd rather have even a 40 year old national championship trophy than none, but by every other measure we have been the superior program for a long time.

Really? wvu get's more respect than Pitt does now? Haha..please. Maybe in Clarksburg and Shinnston but no way nationally. All the success you had really helped you get into the ACC (which you wanted) and the SEC (which you wanted).

There is no doubt that in football and hoops that WVU is far more respected than Pitt. Pitt has been irrelevant for 25 years.

I'm not typically part of these pitt-WVU threads... ...but in this case I can't help myself.

Pick any team power five forum that's not Big12 or ACC and ask which football program is more respected and WVU would win in a landslide.

I'll even let you start it with any opening poll manipulation thoughts you can garnish...and Pitt will still lose.

No doubt wvu gets more respect nationally since at least 1990. Living in HB Cali for the last 15 years and people from sc and ucla understand that wvu has solid hoops and football programs. Wvu beat ucla in hoops 2 years in a row and the fans I speak with remember it well. Pitt has been an after thought for quite some time. The 70+ year old crowd in sw pa will beg to differ though I get it.
