We have had some weak QBs under every coach I can remember and I go back to Bowden (remember Ben Williams or Chuck Fiorante?)
That said, Howard indisputably belongs with the weakest of the last 45 years as did Millard and Childress. Trickett wasn't terrible but he was much closer to a Mike Timko or Dutch Hoffman than to even Kevin White or Rasheed Marshall.
Stats are useful as a supplement in evaluating people. Simply comparing stats out of context or using them to deny the obvious or to support the indefensible simply shows that raw stats cannot be used validly for all purposes. People who don't get that don't understand the game no matter how many stats they can google.

Trickett is 4th all time in passing yards for a season at WVU. Kevin White is 23rd and Rasheed is tied for 21st...........Passing TDs, you ask? Clint is 7th. Rasheed is 10th. Kevin didn't make the top 25....I stopped reading after that.

I could not have presented a better example than the laughable effort to use stats against Georgia State o evaluate performance. Georgia State was considerably worse, very considerably worse, than the GSU we played this year. Taking a tiny sample against competition inferior by a vast margin tells absolutely nothing. Childress and Howard both got big plays with TERRIBLE passes. Everyone with a clue understands that doesn't make them even competent QBS let alone on a par with QBS who amass similar stats over a season or career against many good teams.

Convert those numbers to wins and losses. Dan Marino and Dan Fouts had incredible stats for years in the NFL, How many Super Bowls between the 2 ?? Its an entire team effort. We have had mediocre line play here under the Holgs and absolutely horrendous play in the secondary. Thought the statements when he came here were to WIN conferences and a National Championship. Right now we may not be as far away as in some years, but we won't be competing for either the Big 12 championship , yet alone a National Championship for at least 5 years, and honestly that;s if Dana leaves. If he stays. Then we don't need to be bothered by getting excited about 9-10 -11 or more wins in a season. The future schedules also get rid of the cupcake ooc games. Then what the heck is he going to do?
