...then I change everything I've ever said. I am big on him coming back to WVU, but if he goes to VT it's a true death penalty mode for him as far as I'm concerned. No true Mountaineer would ever do that. In my opinion. VT, Pitt......
VT can have him. Bringing Rich back is not worth the drama it would cause. Besides, his teams play just as bad defense as Dana's maybe worse.
His offenses would score allot more points than Dana'a would. The last time Rich faced a Big 12 team they scored 59 points
It doesn't take a genius to figure out there are better play calls than a 50 yard bomb on 3 and 1I doubt it.
If RR and WVU do have any mutual interest in each other, we'll find out soon once and for all. If RR wants to be back @ WVU, he's just been given a perfect opportunity with VT to leverage himself back into Morgantown. If he's not hired after this season, I don't think we'll ever see him here again.
Lyons has the perfect scenario in front of him to bring back RR. If he doesn't, and instead hires a flop, that will look very poorly on our AD. Especially if RR decides to hook up with Whit Babcock and VT.
If I'm Lyons right now, I hire RR. If he doesn't work out, he can just fire him and move on to the next guy like we were planning to do after Dana anyhow. I think if you pass, you end up either regretting or playing the what-if game in perpetuity.
it is certainly an interesting, complicated situation.
don't forget WVU plays Virginia Tech Sept 2, 2017.
whew can you imagine if Dana is still hanging around and Rich is at VT? Dana had better win that game.
ditto for the off chance WVU plays Ariz in the Cactus Bowl.
Another problem with bringing Rich back is you still need someone to run the defense. I don't want Casteel coaching here in any capacity. The 335 needs to be scrapped all together, it doesn't work for us with Gibby and it's not working for Zona. Good QBs eat this defense alive, and power running teams can gash it.
Dick is 5-4 and has 3 games left he will lose most likely. Given his past vs each of those schools & coaches, he'll be fortunate to get 1 more win. Btw that 5-4 is vs a SOS of 66 according to Sagarin's.

Who wants to hire a coach with that record?
VPI won't hire him. Babcock would have be an idiot to do that. He's been too many places and seen too many good coaches to get involved with Dick and/or the Water Boy.
To be honest I hope it does happen.
1. It would forever put to bed this wild and f$&@ing stupid idea of the Dick ever coming back to Morgantown, and therefore I can continue to go to games & support my Alma Mata.
2. Dick would be at a school I can't stand probably the 2nd most (behind Maryland, I don't count urban city schools that rent a pro stadium).
3. There would be a chance I could bribe the mountaineer to put a sabot in the muzzleloader and shoot the Dick provided he had not been fired or moved on before our game in 2017.
Actually I would figure Tubberville is probably calling Babcock, but his disadvantage is age (61). That guy is a heck of a coach. He's now a heck of an old coach. No Bill Snyder, but darn good.
Btw to save you the time of looking, WVU has a SOS ranked #2. It's called murderers row. I love the schedule. Play the best and see what happens.
I think it's more his attachment to Jeff Casteel, similar to Deforest with Dana. It's frustrating how certain coaches can have unwavering loyalty to poor coaches, even when they are hurting the program. So if you were searching for a new coach you'd only evaluate them on this current season?
Good chance that by the bowl season Rich Rod will not be coaching Arizona as he will have taken another job somewhere else (either with us, VT, Miami, Virginia, or South Carolina).
PLUS, what makes you think we will win 3 more games and get bowl eligible? I can see a good scenario where we finish the season 1-8 in the conference. Iowa State looked very good against Texas. Texas has looked great against Oklahoma. TT can score at will. K-State has our number. And then you have Kansas......BUT we lost to them once as well.
Id evaluate him on his entire career. I'd include what did he do at meat chicken?, how did he leave that school he called his dream job?, and at his current job, just which coaches did he beat and which coaches might has well scheduled Arizona for Homecoming cause they never lost to him?
I mean that is how I'd do it.
I really don't think Babcock will even go that way. VT isn't a bad job. They play in the ACC where that conference has like 3-4 out of14 good football schools and the instate rival doesn't care much about football. That school may be the top 2-3 openings in terms of who you got to beat and what do you have to beat them? It ain't USC or UGA in terms of who Ya got to beat. That school will have a lot of interest in that job.
Using your logic, WVU should abandon the Air Raid offense because it sure isn't working for WVU. The 3-3-5 defense is doing a lot better than the offense, which dumps a lot of its problems on the WVU defense (short field, few points, more pressure, etc.).Another problem with bringing Rich back is you still need someone to run the defense. I don't want Casteel coaching here in any capacity. The 335 needs to be scrapped all together, it doesn't work for us with Gibby and it's not working for Zona. Good QBs eat this defense alive, and power running teams can gash it.
Yeah Oregon with Mark Helfrick, which is not Chip Kelly Oregon. Talk about hot seat, Helfrick will be on it next season.
It's a good win(s). I will give all the credit to that. It's still not chip Kelly.

I don't think Babcock wants RR and I don't think that Lyons wants him. After Arizona, you are likely to see him as an assistant coach at some weak program.
Please. Your emotions and hatred are making your bias. Rich has made enough of a name for himself that he will ALWAYS be a head coach somewhere.
If Bud Foster doesn't get that job, there will be riots in Blacksburg.
Poca High School may have an opening for him. They've been struggling the past few years. He could build a mansion out Muddy Gut. It's the swanky part of Heizer Creek. There's a beauty shop with tanning beds at the mouth of the holler for Miss Rita.

and the last time they faced a middling Washington team they scored 3His offenses would score allot more points than Dana'a would. The last time Rich faced a Big 12 team they scored 59 points
I hope that Rod goes to VT just for the drama of it all. I know that ... ahem .... "true fans" and "real West Virginians" would be on the warpath if Rod goes to VT. But that would be fun to watch.
There is so much more than the games that are entertaining when it comes to WVU football.
