House GOP's 'true goal is failure and chaos': Former Bush speechwriter

David Frum, a former speechwriter for President George W. Bush and a longtime advocate for stricter immigration measures, argues in The Atlantic on Tuesday that House Republicans have shown they actually don't care about border security.

Frum argues that the deal unveiled in the Senate this week was by far the biggest set of immigration restrictions put forth in decades, and that the House GOP's immediate rejection of it -- despite having demanded something like it for months -- shows they have no agenda other than sowing division.

"The very act of negotiation is mistrusted," writes Frum. "Along with their speaker, House Republicans radically altered their position from 'there must be a new law' to 'there must be no new law,' and from 'the president must sign our bill exactly as we wrote it' to 'the president must act unilaterally by executive authority only.' How does anyone negotiate with a House majority that can so abruptly and totally pivot? The true goal revealed is failure and chaos."

Frum goes on to draw a line between the GOP's rejection of the entire concept of negotiation and its voters' desire to elect a strongman who will impose his will without checks or balances.

"Donald Trump has sold his supporters the dangerous fantasy that democratic politics can be replaced by one man’s will," Frum contents. "No need for distasteful compromises. No need to reckon with the concerns and interests of people who disagree with House Republicans. Just somehow return Trump to the presidency: He’ll bark; the system will obey."

Biden could just secure the border and stop all illegal aliens from crossing. You know use the laws in place.
