I am sure ill be attacked by the "other camp"but that said i wanted to express MY thoughts on Holgorsen as a coach. I take the time to add that these thoughts are MINE in an effort to remove anyones ability to discredit the points as they are mine. You can disagree but you cannot discredit because once again...THEY ARE MINE.

Holgorsen came here under the terms of having the HCIW tag and didnt get that chance to learn for a year and get settled. Having been thrust into the HC role prematurely, he had to assemble a staff that otherwise would have had a year to consult and choose. That said, hes had 2 defensive coordinators, several O line coaches, and was left with an arduous learning curve of accepting that there is something to be said for coaches that WANT to be in Morgantown and...not ALL really good coaches come from Texas and vacinity. That evolution took TIME!
Now lets discuss the fact that it has taken him a bit to assemble the staff we have currently AND once a staff is in place it takes a bit of time for that staff to begin building relationships with recruiting areas and coaches at the high school ranks. AGAIN...time is taken up developing this cohesion of staff and relationship building. Now lets look at the time line of Holgorsen. On December 22, 2010; Holgorsen moved to West Virginia as offensive coordinator At that time, athletic director Oliver Luck also announced that Holgorsen would replace Bill Stewart as head coach in 2012, saying that he didn't think Stewart was capable of leading the Mountaineers to a national championship. The relationship between Stewart and Holgorsen was strained from the start and finally came to a head when Colin Dunlap, a former reporter from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, claimed Stewart had asked him and another reporter from the Charleston Gazette to dig up negative information about Holgorsen's behavior. Holgorsen did apologize for an early morning incident when he was asked to leave a West Virginia casino; no further negative information came forth. While Luck was unable to fully substantiate the claims, he decided that Stewart had become too much of a distraction and forced Stewart to resign on June 10, 2011 naming Holgorsen head coach immediately. Now we can look at this as seeing Holgorsen having been HC since 2011 and thus, has been our HC for 5 years this year. Throw away the recruiting year of 2011 because he barely got to have the time to prepare for a season and doing so with a throw together staff due to an early promotion. Lets not forget the defense he adopted from the RR years whereby WR's that couldnt crack the lineup were turned into corners and D linemen were previously O linemen.
My point is Holgorsen has put together a credible depth and in the storm of trying to get settled into the role of HC and staffing his team with coaches - and oh yeah lets not forget the fact that added to that was a conference change- and has began to produce 1st round draft choices from 3 star talent. He was one GREAT quarterback away from 2015 being a year we owned in all aspects. I think Holgorsen should be given the extension that keeps him here ( and subsequently a great staff) and let him continue to build a team that - in reality- he only in the fourth year of doing so- and create the stability within the program that would come with that contract. Hes a winner! Yes hes had to learn some on the job! I feel if we let him go or create a situation that he feels he cant live with HERE...then we have given some other school a great coach that we taught!
