It also shows his lack of integrity. It is obvious he hasn't done his job and no matter what he thinks led to this underperformance, it is obvious thar he us hamstrung going forward. He knows its an even harder task than before given his tenuous situation with recruits, transfers, and staff hires. His body language and posture says he has no faith in his ability to turn this around and earn that contract. He knows if he doesn't improve it will hurt the program and the longer he stays in limbo the more depleted the coffers will be for the next hire both in financial capital, but also personnel. He knows he is lining his pockets only to likely then leave the next guy with a mess like the one he wants to blame all his lack of results on.
So while it is not immoral what he is doing. But it certainly is not virtuous or showing a high degree of integrity. The most stand up thing to do is admit that no matter the cause, this albatross around your neck isn't going to kill your performance and the program. Thus if WVU doesn't have more than 6 wins next year, you will walk with a reduced buyout.
