Geno Smith out 10 weeks, sucker punched...

I'd say he's done in NY after this...missing that much time will put him out of a job

I wouldn't necessarily say that. If his backup does well he'll be out of a job but his backup probably isn't going to do well because he's not very good. Geno will likely still get a fair shot this year and plus this may get him some public sympathy in media-tough NYC since it seemed it wasn't a fight Geno started but instead he was sucker punched.

I think the guy that hit him, who was a marginal player to begin with, ended his NFL career with that punch. I wonder if he could be arrested for assault, assuming it really was a sucker punch.

Absolutely could be arrested for that. Aggravated assault in the 3rd/4th degree bc of the substantial injury.

Sidney Crosby had his jaw broken a few years ago after taking a slap shot from Brooks Orpik. He broke his jaw on March 30 and he returned on May 3rd. Was only out about 5 weeks. He even had surgery. He did play with a special mask. Hockey is a very physical sport. Of course, football is completely different sport but hockey is as physical as football.

Beer...welcome back !!! I thought you made a goodbye forever post.

------------------

My first impulse was to question why the starting QB, usually the respected leader of the team, gets sucker punched by a teammate. I mean....even if the guy didn't like Geno you'd think respect would be enough to hold him back. There....I got that impulse out of the way....

------------------

I think it could easily be argued, even if he gets a chance to start later in the season but without the benefit of preseason, that this attack financially impacts Geno's future income/contract. Even if he can't win on that argument in civil court Geno has plenty of money to make that prick 'lawyer up' and blow every penny he has defending himself. If by chance Geno would win that c$m dumpster would be giving up part of his Wawa paychecks for the rest of his life.

That's a crappy deal for anyone especially a young qb in a make or break season like geno. Hopefully he gets another chance this year.

So who is Enemkpali?

jets-training-camp-2014-day-5-of-the-jets-in-cortland-73ba04481b6e1b94.jpg

According to his 2014 draft profile on NFL.com, his full name is Ikemefuna Chinedum Enemkpali and he is from Pflugerville, Texas. His parents were born in Nigeria.

He played collegiately at Louisiana Tech. According to multiple reports, Enemkpali was arrested following an off-campus incident in April 2011. A report in The News Star of Monroe, La., said that Enemkpali was arrested after an incident at Rabb's Steak House in Ruston, La. The story said that Enemkpali hit an off-duty officer and that pepper spray and a Taser were used to take him into custody. He was charged with disturbing the peace and battery of a police officer. Enemkpali initially was suspended from the team, but was later reinstated and played in the 2011 season.

The Jets season is looking like it will end before it starts. By all accounts Geno was outperforming Fitzpatrick, he was the coaches choice to start as well heading into camp, so even though it is probably not a huge downgrade, they are still down a certified journeyman coming off of a major leg injury, and a 4th round rookie who most say will be a major liability if he sees the field this year. They also lost Sheldon Richardson likely for the year, Dee Milliner injures his achilles, and Mo Wilkerson has hammy issues, plus they had to send the guy packing who punched Geno, who was admittedly a nobody, but he wouldn't have been there if the coaching staff didn't want him there.

So what I am ultimately getting at is, Geno will probably be walking into a pressure free situation when he returns to a team that will be around 3-7 or 4-6, and have a chance to show what hes worth either to the Jets for next year, or someone else.

Well....apparently this fella epitomizes the Ragin in Cajuns!....why couldn't he have been in the Browns camp instead...damn.

I made the same mistake....but Geno will be back way before week 10 of the NFL regular season.

Six weeks and he could possibly play week 2 and certainly could be back after the bye week (which would mean game 5).

The plus side of this injury is he should still be able to practice.

It appears Geno owed this guy $1000 for a reason that will probably remain unknown. Both guys appear in the wrong, although IK obviously should not have punched his starting QB in the face over $1000.

This attack definitely hurts Geno, if for whatever reason the Jets don't play poorly, and Fitzpatrick plays out the season, Geno could potentially be out of the league next year, or at best be relegated to Brady Quinn 3rd string journeyman status.

Shortly after I posted this I turned the TV on for the rest of the story. ESPN had a panel of the boys talking about it and they brought Chris Carter into the discussion. First thing Chris said was "I don't know what happened in the locker room." Next words out of his mouth he throws Geno under the bus and blames him...something like he's the team's QB and should be in control of what happens in the locker room. I always thought well of Chris, now he sounds just like any other big mouth know-it-all ex-jock talking head.

Exactly.... ....everyone knows starting NFL QB's get broken jaws from teammates on a regular basis.

I'm certainly not blaming Geno but it's obvious he wasn't respected by AT LEAST one of HIS guys.

Geno just does not know how to avoid controversy.

Sure .... that guy should have never punched Geno.

But the Geno who got punched is the same Geno who dropped an F-bomb on a fan last year and is the same Geno who pouted when the draft didn't go his way and then made some stupid comments and is the same Geno who incited the UT fans in Austin and is the same Geno who started a near riot with an opposing team before at least one game his senior season and is..........

Some things just never change.

Enemkpali is one of those guys that invariably ends up in prison. Pure thug punk. Leave it to the Jets to bring that type into the fold. Geno got to get outta there.

So Enemkpali gets canned from a $500,000 job. Geno will likely sue him for whatever money he made last year and/or any assets that he acquired. In all likelihood, Enemkpali career in the NFL is over and there is definitely a possibility that he could face jail time and/or probation. And with a criminal record (and his name), he is going to find it difficult to obtain any type of employment for the rest of his life.

Someone had a very bad day today.

The jets have to be the worst franchise Outside of the Raiders in the NFL or at least over the last couple of seasons. Even Bill Romanowski thinks its a bad idea to punch teammates and break their jaws that are quarterbacks. It's why you don't draft a player who has already assaulted a police officer.

The reports coming out now are it was a confrontation and not a sucker punch. Either way, Losing a half million dollar salary over a 600 dollar plane ticket IS BEYOND DUMB! Pick your battles wisely. Is there any doubt why 80 percent of athletes are broke or in financial distress three years after their careers are over?

You just can't fix stupid.

They definitely had one of the worst GMs in the league over the last few seasons. He took over a team with an incredibly strong defense, serviceable O, and neutered the D by letting Revis/Cromartie go, and picked up nothing but offensive question marks in its place. Its been fun to watch as a fan of the Bills, and takes away from my own team's miseries.

Come on now..........let's don't go pointing the finger at Geno! Everybody know Geno can do no wrong. Seriously, for my part Geno can take that attitude and move on down the line................and I ain't taking about the Jets offensive line. I am talking about the Geno Smith offensive line! Geno seems to be angry at the world! Hail, I wasn't born a senator's son but I ain't angry at the world. Just take a look at my picture. See any anger in that face?

To be even more accurate, the Jets have been one of the worst franchises in the past 50 years. Only won 1 SB and that was when man first walked on the moon.

Beer Boy...............
Man walked on the moon? Tell me more. By the way...............many teams never won a Soup Bowl. Can you name the teams that are Soup Bowlless?

Never won or never played? Big difference. As I recall there are three teams that have never played: Browns, Jags, Texans.

Many teams have played and never won including: Bills, Vikings, Falcons, Panthers and I think Chargers. Might be wrong on that one, did the Coryell Charger win one?

Lions never played, and add the Titans, Bengals, Eagles, Cards to the never wons

So the Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho approach to managing people only works in idiocracy? I rest my case..................Geno.

So, one of our former players may have a few faults. Thanks for coming on a message board and highlighting what you think they are. You're a classy Mountaineer fan.

Jets managed 3 points, 6 first downs, 56 passing yards and 23 minutes of possession with Petty and Fitzpatrick at quarterback tonight in Detroit.

Wonder if they missed Geno?

Maybe you should be a Cyclones fan? We really don't want you if you're going to trash our former players.

And you probably think "denial" is a river in Africa. Pointing out the truth is not "bashing." Further, I had questions about Geno's stability when he was at WV and I voiced those questions. I thought the before game near riot he started was outrageous. (Was there more than one?) I expressed disappointment with his behavior in Austin. The WV press did him no favors by ignoring the obvious attitude issues. It might have helped him be ready for the real world. There's a lot more but you may have the last word since you need to feel like the victorious defender.
