MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State Athletics is pleased to welcome Sam Morrone III as Senior Associate Athletics Director for Business Operations and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) after an announcement by Director of Athletics Gene Taylor on Friday morning (June 28).

A former football student-athlete at West Virginia, Morrone arrives at K-State from UNLV, where he served the past three years (2022-24) as Senior Associate AD/CFO. In addition to serving as department head for the business office, he oversaw the daily operations of the 17-team Rebel Athletic Department, all administrative departments, spirit teams and the Thomas and Mack event productions while being the lead administrator for baseball.

"We are excited to welcome Sam, Jessica and their sons SJ and Franko to K-State and Manhattan," Taylor said. "He has tremendous experience and is a highly skilled administrator and financial officer. In addition, being a former football student-athlete provides a great perspective that will make him a well-rounded leader. His position will be critical as we move forward in this new landscape of college athletics, and we are thrilled to have him on our senior team."

Morrone began his career in college athletics at Texas A&M University-Commerce as Director of Business Operations (2011-12) before being elevated to Assistant AD of Internal Affairs (2012-14). He spent one year (2015-16) at Northern Illinois University as Assistant AD of Business Operations before returning to his alma mater in July 2016. He spent six years (2016-22) at WVU as Assistant AD of Business Operations before being hired at UNLV.

A native of Fairmont, W.Va., who grew up in Paris, Texas, Morrone was 3-year lettermen as a tight end for the Mountaineers from 2004-08 for head coaches Rich Rodriguez and Bill Stewart. He was a part of three 11-win teams (2005, 2006, 2007), three conference championship squads (2004, 2005 and 2007 Big East) as well as four bowl championship teams (2005 Nokia Sugar Bowl, 2007 Toyota Gator Bowl, 2008 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and 2008 Meineke Car Care Bowl) while at WVU.

Morrone earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from West Virginia in 2008.

Morrone and his wife, Jessica, are the parents of two sons, SJ and Franko.
