For Those of You Who Want Rich Back

I imagine his seat is getting pretty hot in Tucson. Doc seems to be in a death spiral in Huntington. Dana is 4-0. Oh the trolls are quiet. At least until our 1st loss.

Who would really want the Dick back?
And for what reason?

Let Dick stay in the desert with Magda where he can play characters like Wyatt Earp, James Bond, and Maximus or maybe be Austin Powers this off season.

"Are you not entertained?"

What's more disturbing...?

--A guy who is honest and open about wanting to get back with his ex-girlfriend while still understanding the relationship is over

OR

--A guy who insults his ex-girlfriend while claiming he doesn't want her back yet showing up at at her work and spending random hours in his car outside her house

??

But seriously..... hows Terry Bowden doing?

I know you were taking a shot at me or anyone else who has praised Terry for bringing Akron football back from the dead, but he's doing pretty well: 4-2 so far for a Zips team that had THREE consecutive 1-11 seasons. I'd say Terry is a miracle-worker at Akron, and not be scoffed at by those who know college football. And then there's his great W-L season at Auburn, no creampuff of a schedule there, huh?

So, to answer your question: Terry is doing damn well.
And so is Dana. 4-0 in college football is incredibly hard to do.
So hard that about half of the top 25 teams are NOT undefeated.
So, to sum up: Terry's doing great. Dana's doing great. I have no complaints about either.

As for Rich, who did a superb job at WVU: Not doing so well at Arizona. He's 2-4 with a 3-game losing streak. That probably won't get him a return to the WVU head coaching job. Terry, however, will be on the short list if Dana has another collapse to 7-6 as he did with Geno, Tavon and Stedman on offense.

Aren't you glad you asked?

Rich Rod gave WVU some great seasons, but I think his brand of football is no longer uncommon. Spreading it out has become much more prevalent and is definitely commonplace in the PAC 12 and Big XII. In my opinion RRod can eat sand in the desert for the rest of his days for passing away a championship that the 2007 team could've won. Even if he was still a good coach, I'd still feel the same.

Agreed .... "Imagine" is the right word.

Although this season got off to a rocky start, including Arizona’s first non-conference loss under Rodriguez, the program is in the midst of one of its most prosperous stretches.

The Wildcats have posted four consecutive winning seasons and have made four straight bowl appearances for the first time in school history – all under Rodriguez.

This is rich rod's 5th season at Arizona. He recruited all the players on the team. No way to sugarcoat it. It's been a very disappointing season for them thus far.

I just wonder what our record would have been with Prod Rod as the coach without Pat and Steve.

I think very good. He may well have had a five star QB who started for OSU and Noel Devine. The defense wasn't bad after he left either. He ruined a good thing for himself and for WVU.

You are absolutely nuts if you really think Terry will be on the short list if Dana gets canned. I have a better chance at being on that list.

I'm not nuts, and neither are you. We'll see. Terry has pulled off a miracle in Akron. From three straight 1-11 seasons to a bowl game and 4-2 this year with one loss being the payday game the little guys nearly always lose.

Hmmmm. Check the facts regarding Auburn. Terry won with Tommy's players and Tommy running the offense. Pure and simple. Terry failed when the team was made up of players HE recruited. Nuff said.

You may want to fact check yourself.

"In 1992, Bowden was hired to succeed Pat Dye as the head football coach at Auburn University. Bowden's hiring occurred while the program faced NCAA sanctions, which included scholarship reductions, a one-year television ban, and a two-year postseason ban.

During his first year at Auburn, Bowden led the Tigers to a perfect 11–0 season, becoming the first coach to go undefeated in his debut season at a Division I school. In 1994, Auburn finished 9–1–1, establishing the longest winning streak in school history at 20 games.

In 1997, Auburn reached the SEC Championship Game, where they held as much as a 20–7 lead, but lost, giving up a fourth quarter 73-yard touchdown pass by Peyton Manning of the Tennessee Volunteers." -- Wikipedia

Tommy Bowden was the OC at Auburn until the end of the 1996 season, taking the Tulane HC job; his OC: Rich Rodriquez, who he took with him in 1999 to Clemson.

Pat Dye left the cupboard bare in 1992 (where have we heard that before) and also amassed NCAA sanctions; scholarship losses, post-season bans and TV bans. While Terry may have had mostly players of Dye's on the 1993 team, many were gone for the 1994 season when Auburn went 9-1-1. The scholarship losses from 1993 & 1994 showed up in 1995 & 1996 with 8-4 records. 1997, his last full year was a 10-3 with a Bowl Win, but a loss in the SEC CG.

Those are the facts.

Now, I like Terry; he was a classmate at Morgantown High School and WVU. But we are both 60 this year and I can't imagine taking on a challenge like the WVU HC at that age, nor would I think AD Lyons would consider someone of that age; it's a young man's game at this level. I have never coached anything beyond recreational sports teams, but at my age I wouldn't even consider it today (I am in perfect health) and certainly not a team at a very high level like WVU.

My opinion is that Terry is a very good coach and could do the job, but I'm not sure I would be in favor of it.

Terry is 60 years old. I would think we'd hire a younger guy.

Kansas State coach Bill Snider is 77. Pretty damn tough coach to beat. We need to stop equating age with loss of brainpower or smartness. A lot of great things have been done in history by those in Medicare age.

Why do you type your posts in red ?

The red helps me find my posts in long threads easier. That way, I know everything below my red post are posts I haven't read yet. When you're 84, you have to be smarter. And not have to strain your eyes to find out where you left off in reading the thread. Nothing sinister about it.

Always wondered that, and while it did annoy me (bothers my eyes for some odd reason), now knowing the reason I completely understand it and am fine with it. At 84 years you gotta do what you gotta do!

In all fairness, after the Fraud left there were many on here on supported TB, myself included. He stated on TV, without hesitation, his love for West Virginia and it would be his dream job. At the time, and as far as most on the BL knew, the other was Doc. No matter what anyone says, Doc appeared to be the odds on favorite to get the job. Or, so it seemed that way on the BL. Then the Fiesta bowl win came; Pat endorsed Stew and the rest was history. I for one don't regret supporting TB, in fact I got a very nice thank you letter from him as a result. In the end, none of this really matters because Dana is our coach and I will publicly support him 100% as long as he is here.

Now, always supporting him on the BL, that's another story; we all need a place to vent from time-to-time.

I love your posts, Cuy. You're about 20 years older than me and I really appreciate your perspective gained from many, many, many decades of watching WVU and its athletic programs.

I clearly recall the days, as do you, when we were struggling to beat Richmond and some of those other now 1-AA schools back in the late 70's. It's just fabulous to see the unbelievable advancement in the academics, academic facilities, athletics and athletic facilities at WVU in the past 50 years. If you haven't watched those 50 years go by with your own 2 eyes you have no idea what I'm talking about.

Having said all this, there is NO DOUBT in my mind that WVU's best days.............and I mean REALLY good days are ahead of it, both academically and athletically. LGM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And, thanks again Cuy for your insightful posts.
