It would be hard to nail down a single strength that the new WVU football coach and staff needs to possess and bring to the table immediately but the ability to recruit well has to be near the top. Below is the next round of facility upgrades that are clearly geared toward recruiting and a new look for Puskar Center. While we are not completely starting over being in the B12 a new staff going up the talent level seen and improving in the B12 is at another level than you see in the Sunbelt for example.
When push comes to shove it’s all about recruiting and getting kids on campus to sell your program and the facilities compared to the other guy. The good news is WVU is committed to kicking that up a significant notch with the already planned upgrades shown in the below link. Does completion of these upgrades now take on more sense of urgency or expand in scope to help the new staff? Any idea when this will be completed????
Defense, offense, coaching staff, new culture, mental toughness, new energy are all things you hope a new coaching staff brings with them but recruiting improvement is table stakes these days.
This link made it sound like “when we get the money” the upgrades to 85k sq ft (which is huge by the way) will happen in a domino timeframe (5 yrs ?). To me the timing of the upgrades becomes more important to help the new staff succeed early in the B12. The new WVU selling point goes from “Coaching Stability” to “New & Exciting”....a fresh coat of stunning paint ($55 million) will help with that narrative and you can bet the new coach is discussing this with Lyons.
