In the Big East WVU played with Big East talent. Today WVU is playing against Big 12 teams with Big 12 talent. Beyond that nothing else matters but who wins and who loses. You can make your poor attempts to insult people but those are the facts and not your silly comments.

What ever...I didn't insult anyone that didn't insult themselves.

Vernon, I can handle losing to #2 team on the road. I can handle losing by a lot. The most disheartening thing to me is we Continue to have mental error after mental error penalties that have us in the bottom 10% of the ncaa (and Baylor declined a few or it would have been even worse). We have special teams guys catching punts on the 5. Just boneheaded stuff. It has to be coaching. We have receivers running the wrong routes and he complains they are all young - he's had 5 years to recruit receivers and QBs. We are 6 games into the season. Teach them better.

I think we are positioned well for the future in two years, but I have a hard time believing Dana would know how to lead even if we had all five star kids like Alabama. Well coached teams don't do the stupid things we see over and over again whether or not they're 2-stars or 5-stars.

So, what you are saying is that after 5 years we should still settle for moral victories of playing top 15 ranked teams each week and just beat up on the Kansas, Iowa State, and Texas Tech's....and an occasional OSU win??????

Say what you want, but our recruiting has stepped up. The talent level on the roster is better than it's ever been. However, the wins are not coming. Hmm.....

Well, if Dana is let go then this poster may have to find another drinking buddy...or.....perhaps he sells the Red Bull that Dana consumes? He's afraid of losing his only customer? At the 7/11 he works at.

I'm with you and feel like your response would have been better for WiiWii. He's the one that seems to think that a WVU fan not being happy with the current situation needs to grow up. Lol Ignoring the current problems won't make them go away but maybe I'm just embarrassing myself.

I personally love the posters who say that we shouldn't be alarmed because we are "playing better teams". But, yet, when we were in the Big East (which had an automatic bid to the BCS) and won that league with 9 wins, that wasn't good enough.

Compare the recruiting classes back then to now. Not even close. These teams are much, much better than those. So, where are the wins?

It isn't all coaching, it isn't all playing. We are not at the talent level as the top teams in the conference and are better than those at the bottom. Most of you will hate what I am about to say but I think RR spoiled us in terms of playing above our talent level. He recruited to his system very well. He had a good ability of taking a 2 or 3 star kid and making him look much better because of how they were used in the system. This allowed us to win a lot of games we were out manned. Unfortunately he also had the unique ability to drop a game regularly to a team we should've beaten by at least 2 tds

People on his staff also had the ability to see a star when everyone else just saw a contributor. It was one thing he did very well. Calling a quick slant or a post when the offense hasn't moved the ball in 50 minutes in a game we were favored heavily in was something he did not do very well haha.

At least he had us in position to play for a national title. Judging Rich Rod's coaching abilities on just one game is ridiculous. Yet people excuse Holgorsen's 5 years by saying "but but but....other teams have more talent". Give me a break!

It has come to the point with me that it is what it is. Dana is not going anywhere and we are stuck being the Perdue of the BIG, the Vandy of the SEC, or the Oregon State of the PAC 12. My "give a damn" meter is busted as I could care less.

Funny, but I thought Kansas filled the role of the Big XII punching bag.

I guess I'm at this point:

Seems like most everyone is "OK" with us being where we are at. They are just thankful we are in a power 5 conference. But, my question is pretty simple.....if our fans are now in the mindset that we have no shot of winning this conference because we don't have the "players" it takes, and probably never will, then why are we here? We would have been better off in the AAC. Seriously, we would have. Closer travel for our fans. And teams we can compete with and win championships. Don't get what I'm saying confused, I'm not saying we should be there. I'm saying that IF our fans don't think we will win championships in this league, then being in it just to say "hey, we are in with the big boys" isn't what I want. Because when the season comes to an end year after year, we are either 5-7 (no bowl), 6-6 (crappy bowl), or 7-5 (less crappy bowl).....and usually playing another disappointing team just so we can be disappointed further.

don't forget the blown coverages in the secondary too

I am not taking a side at all. Rich Rod was hard headed in play calling in more than one game. With that said I think overall he was a much better coach than what we have had since.
I was saying there are a few coaches out there who can win pretty big with a little lesser talent. He was one of them. I know you can't predict what if but I believe if Rodriguez was here right now with this team we are probably in the top 3 or 4 in the league last year and this year.

I'm not a big Dana fan. I don't think he has taken this program backwards at all but I think the progression of the program has been minimal also. I just don't see a ton of coaching talent we can afford. I'm a realist and I don't expect a coach to come, be ultra successful, and stay for life. I know they will listen to offers, and that is understandable. Even accepting candidates who may only be here 5-7 years I am not sure I see one who I think does a lot more for the program than what we have now. There are a few, Herman, Fuentes, and Smart maybe. The others all have ties with the Leach Holgorsen tree.
Maybe wait it out a couple of years when Jumbo is on the hot seat for winning 11 games a year and pitch him then.

Same here. I've come to expect wvu being a .500 team in the big 12 and beating the bottom feeders. We are the Purdue and BC of the big 12, nothing more and nothing less.

Remind me again where WVU was picked to finish?

Most of you want Dana fired because WVU is not living up to YOUR expectations.

Dana won't be fired until WVU stops living up to realistic expectations.

3 BCS wins against

Georgia-HC Mark Richt
OU-HC Bob Stoops
Clemson-HC Dabo Sweeney

Those programs disappoint their fan bases all the time but they stay relivent BC they don't Fire coaches every 4 years.

Art Briles has built something great at Baylor bc they allowed him time to grow their program. Had RichRod stayed and was still with the program I think we would be in a better place and competing for big12 titles already like TCU. But that's not the case, and I think we finally have a staff that's wanting to stick together and build something great.

Am I disappointed, yes, but our program is getting better every year and I can see the growth so I'm willing to stick it out through these growing pains.

Now that is a defeatist attitude if I ever heard one. If that is true, we should be in the AAC.

Spoken like a true "fan" who only cares about the football team and nothing about the university itself.

WELL LITTLE WiiWii....this thread didn't end up the way you imagined it would!!!!

our program is getting better every year and I can see the growth
I keep hearing these exact same phrases repeated endlessly by all Holgorsen's defenders here as well as the Big 12 bloggers at ESPN.

Can one of you please point out exactly where we are allegedly getting better every year and where the growth is?

Besides, if all those claims are true, why aren't we seeing the results get better every year?

ESPN bloggers are all lackeys for the coaches anyway. I remember 2 years ago them saying Charlie weis was a great coach and was gonna make KU a contender, lol.

The program hasn't improved under Dana. Thanks for the Orange Bowl, but it's time for you to GTFO. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if he resigned anyway after the season.

Being in the big 12 maybe different than the big east but 2005 and 2007 Mountainer

Rich Rod recruited a team that beat the sec champion in the sugar bowl and his recruits coached by Bill Stewart in the fiesta Bowl totally blew out Oklahoma he is a much better coach than Dana holgorson

I hate bringing up Stewart, but if this team was coached under Bill Stewart and we were 0-3 to start, and all the turnovers and penalties, what would fans be saying? You know it. I know it. It's time to say "thanks" and part ways.

Spoken as a true "fan" of athletics. Yes. That's what I am.

Exactly. The well-being of the university doesn't concern you. WVU is just a football team you like.

Let's give up millions in revenue, national exposure and associations with great universities simply to pacify some dope who wants to see wins only.

Except it's not that easy. You need to have the funding and you need the right replacement.

And of course, there's the possibility the new coach will be worse.

Or......option #2....... make a push to WIN WIN WIN on the field. Huggins has done it on the court. Yet Dana, in year #5, cannot get it done on the field.

So, keep the old coach because the new coach "might" not be better? Glad you don't run a business. Because to increase your profit margin, sometimes risks turn in to rewards.

I do run a business and I only take calculated risks with it. I don't make knee-jerk decisions to pacify dopes.

We didn't get the Stewart hire right and apparently we didn't get the DH hire right either and we have a new AD who probably hasn't had to make this kind of decision before. So before we burn millions in buyouts and possibly enter protracted litigation - yeah, I want to make sure we have the right candidate lined up.

Every coaching replacement is a risk. When Dana was brought in, everyone assumed it was a top-notch hire.
