WVSPORTS.COM Donaldson to the portal

I fully expected this one and all the others so far. Are the Brown haters waking up to reality yet?

Did you actually think that Donaldson would NOT have entered the portal if Brown stayed? Dude, he was going to enter it as soon as White became the starter this year.
He might have but isn't the point. So many have thought RR would keep him and others that have entered already and build with even more talent. Not sure you are part of that group or not.

I have no idea who will or won’t stay. It’s almost impossible to say. Then I also wonder if any of these guys are entering just to explore their “free market value” with NIL and may return. I’m not sure it’s worth worrying about based on their results over the years. I do wonder if the couple of offensive linemen who have entered has signaled that the oline coach is gone. If we retained anyone, I would have considered DLine and Oline coaches. Both have done well over the past 5-6 years.

All that are entering, I'm willing to bet 99% will sign elsewhere. Let me know when one returns to the team

Let's see. He's a RB, who after his explosive freshman season has been mediocre, not rushing more than 800 yards and averaging only 4.6 yards per carry in his sophomore and junior seasons, behind what many said was the "best OL in the Big 12". How many RB's are in the portal than can put up those numbers? I'll answer for you: A LOT.

I agree with those comments. But again, you are lost on my point.

Trying to keep players from transferring is a bad reason to keep a coach who isn't getting it done. We sat through a total shitshow in basketball last season so we could punish someone before there was time to hire a coach. Football is going to have to rebuild also. Neals players aren't likely to take to being coached hard. They didn't sign up for that.

I agree to a point. I just wouldn't paintbrush all the players on the roster as soft. They aren't from what I have witnessed. Many are and they are leaving.

Yeah i agree with that about them not being soft players. It's really more about fit and having options for them. I agree with the players who are wanting to test the waters. If Rich recruits them well, some of them could even come back.

As mentioned before, nothing wrong with testing the waters. Especially when the overwhelming majority of them will be playing at a level below next year. Why not go there and get playing time rather than riding the pine here.

Here's the thing. Those that leave are also being replaced. Amazing thing that portal.

Edit: he was a TE trying to become RB.

I wasn’t a fan of how McAfee burned the current players. Yes some of them were lazy and don’t deserve to come back, however, many of them have potential under the right coaching and development to excel. Lets hope most of them see this as an opportunity to turn the program around and step up to the challenge.

In my experience, today's youths are less likely to have their laziness "corrected". If they are lazy, they will remain lazy. Just move on to fresh faces with a new staff.

What do you mean by waking up to reality? Are you implying that those who thought Brown earned his firing didn't think a coaching change would result in players leaving for the portal? Also, a question to you. What good is a roster, regardless of talent level, if the coaching staff can only muster 6 wins with it?

CJ is a below average running back with above average size and strength. he is very mentally weak and left and a normal amount of broken tackles out on the field.

Let’s also talk about the taunting after every single collision. Mentally weak. Pretty sure he was one of the several that slouched in their seats.

Most won't address the point of my question. In the past weeks, many assume the hiring of RR was going to make everything better immediately. Zero regard that players with playing time would leave. The entire focus was we would improve simply by switching out coaching and improvement would be felt starting next year. Now that players are leaving, those that felt in that way to some degree have any change of opinion on whether we will have the roster next year to be any better than we were this year record-wise or is all the fault you blame on our lack of success still tied to coaching?

Absolutely no one was saying that. You are knocking down your own straw man. No one who thought Brown should go thought a coaching change wouldn't result in roster turn over. Nor did they think a new coach would instantly make WVU better.

Who? I’m not sure 6-7 isn’t off the table next year and it’s not too far of a stretch to say 7 wins is out of reach. That would be immediate improvement. It’s a little early yet to make any proclamations either way. Teams are still in the playoffs and almost certainly will face attrition when their season wraps up. I am not a fan of Rich Rod returning, but to think a 3 win year isn’t in the cards, one would be denying what has happened the last time Rich Rod took over. If that happens, I hope our 80-7 win comes against Pitt. That also doesn’t mean the program won’t improve from there beyond where it was 1 week ago.

You make some good points. I'm on the record several times of saying regardless of coach we hire, we will go backwards record-wise. Doesn't mean Brown's firing wasn't warranted as it was. Doesn't mean after year 1, RR will be a winner. Only means I expect a rough year as we won't have depth of talent in 2025.

He was a small TE that they attempted to switch to RB. His speed was suspect. He had power but ran straight up which made it easier for teams to cause a fumble. See three of them in the bowl game and lost 2.

I expected 8 wins. Now with major players jumping off the climb I expect 7 wins with 1 against Pitt. The OOC should result in 3-0. If not his seat should warm immediately.

Disagree on seat being warm. That is part of the problem. Fans need realistic expectations. The players feel the ridiculous attitudes of the fans.

Disagree is wrong word. I actually somewhat agree with you that some fans expect too much. I should say Disappointing if that happens. My bad

Disagree. See list of first year coaches that were very very successful.

Means nothing. All situations are different.

Save your stats. I'm aware. Means zero.
So you think WVU can not win all 3 OOC games

Robert Morris
Ohio U.
Pitt (lose this one and his seat becomes warm)

Conference wins
Houston
Kansas
UCF

Possibility of wins against
Texas Tech
TCU
Kansas
Houston

The game will be played on the field with players. We will beat Bobby Mo. OU at their place, not a sure thing. Pitt, never a sure thing. Until I know the players we have, I find it stupid to say we will win any game except Bobby Mo on a 12 game schedule in 2025.
