If Oklahoma gets the Fiesta Bowl, the 6-pack of New Year's Day bowl games, the Valero Alamo bowl Dec. 29 in San Antonio picks 2nd and will take Oklahoma State.

The Dec. 28 Russell in Orlando chooses next, so it will probably take West Virginia.

That leaves the Advocare Bowl in Houston Dec. 28, the Liberty Dec. 30 in Memphis, the Cactus Dec. 30 in Phoenix and the Armed Forces Bowl Dec. 23 in Fort Worth as Big 12-designated bowl spots.

Since only 6 Big 12 teams have 6 victories to be bowl eligible, one spot will go wanting unless they implement the mercy rule because there aren't enough teams with 6 victories to fill all the bowl spots in the country.

Actually CFE, the Fiesta is a semi-final game this year and it is doubtful that the Big Xii will get a piece of the playoff action. If they did, this may be the possible scenario but the Peach Bowl (the other semi-final) is just as likely depending on the seeding of the final four.

If OU is the Big Xii champ and not a final four team they would be the selection for the Sugar Bowl against an SEC opponent, probably the loser of the SEC CG. Then the picking order for the Big Xii is:
Valero Alamo
Russell Athletic
AdvoCare V100 Texas
AutoZone Liberty
Cactus
Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl

This assumes that the Big Xii has enough bowl eligible teams to fill the roster, which at this point they do not. So the Armed Forces Bowl will get to pick from another conference unless an exception is made to allow a 5-7 Texas or TTU to participate. Also, one of TCU's 6 wins is against FCS S. Dakota St, so they need a win this Saturday against KSU to solidify their bowl standings, I believe.

The wild card is that the Cotton Bowl can pick "at-large" and does like a local flavor to match-ups, at least for one of the teams and they could pick OSU to fill a slot, which would then leave WVU available for the Alamo Bowl. It is a long shot.

More likely WVU will get the Russell Athletic Bowl as you stated with OSU in the Alamo Bowl and OU in the Sugar Bowl representing the Big Xii champs vs. the SEC runner-up.

False. FCS teams count as a win toward bowl eligibility. The only instance that doesn't happen is if a team plays two FCS teams in one season (a very rare occurrence).

Yep, you're right. I figured that out this morning that 1 FCS team can count toward the 6 wins. Army has an issue as they probably deserve to go to a bowl but they have 2 FCS wins. I hope somebody makes an exception as there will be plenty of openings.

Wow, Pitt... that would be...... except that as the #6/7 team in the ACC say hello to the Pinstripe Bowl.

If Clemson is in the playoff and FSU the Orange only Miami, Vtech, NC get picked ahead of Pitt and people in Orlando won't necessarily want to see UM.

ACC SELECTION CRITERIA:

Like many conferences, the ACC has a selection hierarchy when it comes to filling it remaining bowl game partners. However, the ACC’s system is not a true one-through-ten type of hierarchy. If the conference faces a Big Ten opponent in the Orange Bowl, then the Citrus Bowl will have the first pick of the remaining ACC teams. And if the Big Ten fills the Citrus Bowl instead of the Orange Bowl, the Russell Athletic Bowl gets the first pick of the remaining bowl eligible teams.

Russell Athletic Bowl
Date: Wednesday, December 28
Location: Camping World Stadium, Orlando, FL
2015 Game: Baylor 49, North Carolina 38

Selection Criteria: ACC No. 1 vs. Big 12, unless Big Ten is selected to participate in Orange Bowl, in which case ACC No. 1 goes to Citrus Bowl and ACC No. 2 goes to Russell Athletic Bowl.

Which means that it is more likely that VT gets the Orange Bowl as the runner-up and Louisville, FSU, Miami, UNC are next in line. It would be a huge jump based on conference finish for Pitt to jump up into that slot.

I guess we'll just have to wait for Selection Sunday to see where WVU goes. At 10-2 or even 9-3, WVU shouldn't be too far down the list. I wouldn't think Baylor will recover from its freefall in Mountaineer Field. God, I hope not. I don't want another freezing game where my alma mater tanks. The Oklahoma game was bad enough.
Any way you slice it, this has been the most enjoyable WVU season since the 10-3 in the Big East final membership.

There are only 74 bowl eligible teams as of right now. Army(6-6) and Hawaii(6-7) right now next in line to get bowl bids. Only one team can get to 6-6 this week(La-Lafayette) and South Alabama can also get to 6-6 but is in the same situation as Army. (Thanks to LSU-Florida their reward will be a bowl game since they traded LSU for Presbyterian) The there will be a minimum of 2 and a max of 4 5-7 teams - in order they will be North Texas, Mississippi State, Texas and I think Texas TEch.
