COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ten former Ohio State University students filed a lawsuit that says the university facilitated the abuse of a now-deceased doctor accused of a decades of sexual assault.

The lawsuit, filed Thursday in federal court in Columbus, says OSU officials learned about Richard Strauss' inappropriate conduct as early as his first year of employment there in 1978. The abuse of these and other students continued.

The former students who filed suit were on the university's track, tennis, soccer, basketball and wrestling teams, while another says he was assaulted at a health care clinic.

Strauss, who worked at OSU from 1978 to 1998, killed himself in 2005. He worked as a team physician in athletics from 1981 to 1995

"Throughout Dr. Strauss's 20-year tenure at OSU, OSU administrators, coaches, physicians, and other employees were repeatedly informed about Dr. Strauss's sexual abuse of OSU students," the lawsuit states. "Instead of taking action to stop Dr. Strauss's serial sexual abuse, OSU not only turned a blind eye to it, but facilitated the abuse."
