DeVries didn't hide from the fact that his team just didn't bring it tonight.
- He said his group wasn't as physical or aggressive as they needed to be and didn't bring the fight to their opponent. He says the formula is still the same and they have to play a certain way to be successful.
- He said they played seven guys and the depth is fine and that injuries and foul trouble are part of it.
- Injury news: On Hansberry, nothing yet. Asked about Tenner - "you know the answer". Asked about Stone who was not on the bench and DDV said he's dealing with a family issue
- He said Arizona did a good job being physical and disrupting WVU from getting to spots. He feels like they didn't do that on defense. He also said that his group has been getting people off their spot and that tonight it was reversed
- DDV said on the second half surge it started with defense and they could get transition buckets. He also said they were able to play with more space and that the loose ball that turned into an AZ three was a game changing play. He said if WVU got it and scored it's a one score game and things might go differently.
- He then added they couldn't keep pace once they got it close and that they were getting to the paint way too easily.
- DDV said Arizona presents problems with their length and that goes back to his point about needing to play with a physicality and intensity on defense because they are not as big and tall as other teams. He said this is a long league schedule and there will be nights like this here and there
- Added they had a few good looks on offense but overall couldn't get the looks they wanted. Used the word 'anxious' to describe the offense and that they didn't trust the ball movement.
- Says the effort on defense has to be there and that they weren't as connected. Tried to change things up throughout in terms of how they played the ball screen but AZ consistently answered.
- He wanted to play fast on offense but when they would go fast, Arizona would speed them up in transition and that's not what he wanted. Pointed to open layups after buckets in the first half
- Said his team played with joy to start the scond half and wanted them to have the same energy and fight they had when they were up while they were losing.
