wrong. The best choices are BYU, Colorado State, and Houston. They are one of some 32 schools that have done the same thing. The hope is to get into Denver market of course. I believe that if the conference is thinking westward at all...CSU is a sleeper replacement for all the BYU chatter. Of course, the best move would be to add four with giant media markets...CSU for Denver, Cincinnati for Ohio, CFU for Orlando, and UConn for NYC and New England. All would strengthen cable penetration...a growing concern for Fox Sports and ESPN as they bleed money.
Those are the top 3.Houston makes perfect sense. The Big 12 already has their market saturated...might as well put it completely under water. Maybe we can put a new Big 12 Network in the same households two or three times over.

This is a perfect example of someone who has no idea what they are talking about. Only stating what they think they know as fact. Want facts? Fact: Last season UT vs OU barely outdrew UH vs Temple. Fact 6 out of the top 10 games viewed were SEC games, not Big 12. Fact: if you actually look at the data the SEC owns the Houston market. You and anyone else who feel this way do yourself a favor, pull out one of those map thingys and look at where Houston is located and look real hard. Then ask yourself is Houston in the middle of Big12 country, or is Houston just in Texas which you would just automatically assume means the Big12 owns it? 6 million people in the Greater Houston are. You think the Big12 is on every football fans TV? Seriously? No reason to consider Houston? Seriously? I'm sorry I can't even...Houston makes perfect sense. School Market Rank Population
Houston 5 6,313,158 Huge market but saturated with other Txs schools
Tampa/StPe(USF) 17 2,969,600 Growing but stadium issues etc
Denver(CSU) 19 2,814,330 Big 12 roots market but west not east
Orlando(UCF) 24 2,387,138 Growing, huge school, in the east
Cincinnati 26 2,267,846 Ohio and in the east
Memphis 41 1,341,766 SEC country but SEC country
ESPN's on the scene reporter at the meetings earlier this month stated that he had the distinct impression UCF and Cincy were the top two candidates based upon the studies presented. He interviewed several ADs as well as members of the consulting firm. We can predict all we like, but the reports will be public in a few days. Then we will all know who among us was close, way off, and maybe even spot on.
Houston best team out there to get. Not everyone in Texas is a Texas longhorn fan. Houston Cougars would be one of the top teams in the Big 12 right now if they were in it. I Do like BYU and Colorado State makes sense. Until WVU realizes that the Big 12 really does not care about them and expansion is really not coming east(I think maybe Florida at best) you guy will be disappointed. I think that South Florida and Houston are the top targets, followed by BYU and Colorado State. After that then you might get into the Memphis, Cincy, UCONN debate. If the Big 12 goes to 14 then I can see the shift East but if they stay at 12 I see Houston and South Florida. And do not give me this saturated market crap either. I am sure the SEC would take Clemson and Florida State right now
Houston has no value it can offer the Big-12.
They have more political clout than the other candidates.
I'd make it simple and bribe everyone possible. Money's gotta exchange hands somewhere.
The only political clout - and this is a real reach - is playing the role of Texas' bitch in the way TT and TCU does. Texas holds sway over TT and TCU and those schools submit votes that fall into line with the wishes of the UT administration. If Houston were to be brought into the conference it could be as a "something for you and something for me deal." Boren gets his 12 teams and one of them is Cincinnati, who he wants and Texas votes for it along with TT and TCU but Texas gets Houston under its thumb.
In the future Texas than can count on 4 votes out of 12 to back their ideology and those 4 votes are enough to sink any plans that Texas does not like because 9 would be needed to make anything happen. I don't think that scenario is even remotely possible but Texas has an incredible ability of being shortsighted, backward and a bit befuddled when times call for clarity.
I'm talking about sway in the actual state legislature, and in regional politics and lobbying resources.
You're thinking like a fan.
Houston will fight for this and be loaded for bear.
I'm not predicting they'll get the invitation, just that they will bloody it up.
Strip mall college
The ignorance of some statements on this forum is astounding. Darth have you ever been outside of Cassville, WV? Really? UCF has nearly 61,000 students and a huge, diverse campus...think WVU times 2 1/2. Read this...you might sound less ignorant lol!

The state legislature is not invested in bringing Houston into the picture. There are high schools in Texas that have more pull with the state house than Houston does. Football in Texas is a mania and often it makes no sense why Texas holds certain opinions.
Houston is a useless addition for the Big-12 unless there was no Texas in the Big-12, then it might have some value.
So you're implying you have a good understanding of Texas state politics?
If you have inside knowledge, I'll concede to your expertise.
Darth. So you have been on a college campus? LOL Please explain soul less...so the rest of us can understand. BTW: If you would have ever been on the WVU campus, or remotely connected to WVU, you would know where Cassville is.LOL x2
My information on such things is likely out of date on details but having lived in San Antonio and Austin for a significant portion of my life and sticking my nose into places it did not belong I feel that I cam to understand the inner workings down that way to certain extent. I am not arrogant enough to think I know all of it or even a good slice of it, I know enough to know how much I don't know, but that amount has served me well in the past. I would not call it expertise, more like first hand experience.
