Crazy bowl scenario question; we get in with 5 wins

I know the rule for bowl eligibility has been 6 wins (with some exceptions). Jerry Palm at CBSsports says there is no way there will be enough 6-win teams to cover all of the bowls... and there will be several teams with 5-7 records that get bowl bids.
If we finish 5-7, but "made it to a bowl", where does our coaching situation stand?
What if we go 5-7... make it to a bowl... and win the bowl? Where does our coaching situation stand?
Of course, my grave fear is going 5-7, going to a bowl, and losing. An 8-loss bowl team?

There is absolutely no way a 5 win team should go to a bowl game. A bowl game should be a reward for a good season, and 5 wins does not constitute a good season. In answer to your question, a 5 win season in a coaches 5th season should have the obvious effect on the coaching situation. A bowl game should be a non factor in that case.

no nothing about that indicates the ship has been righted and is deserving of another season.

The best win of the season could turn out to be Ga Southern.

I just don't see how beating winless Kansas & a few other bottom feeders is the light at the end of the tunnel that merits a continuation of any sort.

Where does the coaching situation stand??? In the toilet bowl. There is no way a 5 win team should be in a bowl game. And there is no way a 5 year offensive genius should only have 5 wins.

[ There is no way a 5 win team should be in a bowl game. ]

I totally agree about the 5 win bowl team. Personally, I don't think a 6-6 team should go to a bowl. However, there are 80 bowl spots for 130 teams now... which is ridiculous. I think a few years ago, Notre Dame turned down a bowl when they were 6-6, but most schools will still take it for the extra practice, chance for fans to travel and the exposure. However, when I first started following WVU in the 1970s, a bowl meant something. I remember in 1985, we went 7-3-1 and didn't even get a bowl bid.

Its a shame instead of rooting on WVU to win, some misguided people are hoping for them to lose.

Fans of WVU? not a chance

I do not see where anyone in this thread are hoping our team loses. I agree though, a fan under no circumstances should ever want our team to lose. I also have mixed feelings about fans not showing up to games to protest a coaching situation. While I understand voicing your opinions but it seems counterproductive to have a half full stadium. We want our team to be better and we should realize there are recruits that will be at the game and may judge our program by the game day atmosphere.
