Let me start by saying those who have read my previous threads know I haven't been a fan of RR since his time at WVU; his entire career has been kin to a house of smoke and mirrors. I honestly could care less about how he left his Alma Mata, my concerns about him being a candidate for the position based solely on his career numbers. When you take a deeper dive than just the W/L column, so let's compare his career record with several of the other coaches on the hot board:
RR
18 seasons: 144-93(60% win %)
49-80 against teams with winning records (38% win %)
95-13 against teams with losing records (87% win %)
Jon Sumrall
3 Seasons: 32-7(82% win %)
17-5 against teams with winning records (74% win %)
15-2 against teams with losing records (86% win %)
Barry Odom
6 seasons: 44-32 (58% win %)
14-30 against teams with winning records (47% win %)
30-2 against teams with losing records (93% win %)
Jimbo Fisher
14 seasons: 128-48(73% win %)
81-39 against teams with winning records (68% win %)
47-9 against teams with losing records (84% win %)
Dan Mullen
13 seasons 103-61(63% win %)
51-60 against teams with winning records (45% win %)
52-1 against teams with losing records (98% win %)
Only coaches on the hot board that have had FBS head coaching experience, so even with this small sample size, RR has the worst winning percentage against teams that end their season with a winning record. Even in a downtime, the Big 12 has at least nine teams that fit that criteria, so with historical data, RR would be a mediocre coach at best this year. One last thing for Shits and giggles lets add the career record of the coach we just got i rid of for not doing the job.
Neil Brown
10 seasons: 72-51(59% win %)
33-35 against teams with winning records (49% win %)
49-12 against teams with losing records (80% win %)
The big difference between RR's and NB's career records is that RR won more games than he was supposed to win against inferior competition.
Finally based on what Vernon has said about RR and JF being long shots at best my personal choice for who we should go with would be Jon Sumrall even despite his lost in the conference title game and like many had said in other threads Barry Odom would be my last choice besides RR since his number would be similar if not worse than both Rich Rod and Neil Brown
