We are 5th in raw DRtg at .897ppp, behind Tennessee, Houston, UCLA and Duke, and ahead of Maryland, Illinois, Cincy, Georgetown (!!) and Texas A&M. We are holding court with teams widely considered to be best of the best defensively.
Our points per shooting possession allowed is 1.13...D1 average is the highest it's been in a decade at 1.29...and for comparison, our best PPSP during Press Virginia was 1.23.
We are allowing 4.8 unguarded (meaning closest defender >5 feet away) jumpers per game. Last year we allowed 10.9 per game, year before that 7.2 per game. 2019-20 we allowed 9.9 per game. 2015-16 we allowed 5.1 per game. 2009-10 we allowed 5.8 per game.
Can we sustain this level in the meat of the B12 schedule with a short bench? I don't know. I do know we can regress a little and still turn the water off enough most nights to give us a chance.
