Just wanted to clear the air on this Christmas Eve. I feel that I have come across negative on this board and the direction of the program and that’s not who I am or who I wanted to be.
Like most on here I was frustrated and tired of the NB era and the way we underperformed year in and year out, I truly believe we should be a top 25 team yearly. I was hoping for a change last year but was so excited for the program when Wren pulled the trigger this year. I hoped the Brown would succeed as he seems to be a decent human being and seemed to enjoy West Virginia and the school.
With all the buzz around the program during the interviewing process I was hoping for that splash hire, that big name that would bring the spotlight back on WVU. I’m just a fan, have no connections or sources within the team or administration so everything i have is strictly perception or what I read on this board. I was not a fan of the RR hire, I was not a fan of the way he left when he was here last nor was I impressed with his record at Michigan or Arizona. I didn’t care that he left but how he left, I didn’t not hold a grudge and I didn’t need to forgive him, he never did anything to me personally that required forgiveness. Wren made the choice to hire Rich for whatever reason, maybe he was a top choice or maybe the donors strong armed him or maybe Wren struck out with several others….i have no clue.
The day of the press conference I felt myself getting excited again, I started drinking the RR cool-aid. I watched the whole show, listened to all the interviews, the PC, and Pat go on and on about the future. I will never forget how Rich left and some of his words but was moving past that, just wanted to win again, to be relevant again. I was pumped up remembering how White and Slaton used to run all over people, the fast pace offense and the chip we always had…I was ready for the season to start.
Now comes hiring the staff and watching good players go to the portal, here comes the frustration again. Remember, I said I was just a fan with no insider information so what I know is what is seen to the public. No announcements from Rich and no players coming in to the team from the portal but some of our better players leaving. I know this happens to every team during a coaching change and I know what our record was last year but I can’t believe anyone wanted players like CJ or Clement to leave. The hiring of the staff has seemed unorganized and clunky, seems Rich is struggling getting commitments and losing out on his top choices. I have showed frustration and have came across negative with several post, that really isn’t the way I want to be. I love WVU and will root for these players and coaches no matter who they are.
I’m a WVU fan and always will be, give what I can when I can and wear the flying WV with pride. This roller coaster has to stop soon I hope, I’m tired of the ups and downs but such is life as a WVU fan.
