I was listening to the morning show guy on the local sports-talk radio this morning and he was talking about the upcoming B1G/SEC meeting to form an "alliance" (we know how those sometimes go). But he was quoting someone from Yahoo Sports, didn't catch the name, who was supposed to have inside knowledge.

After the 2025 season, the unanimous vote provision of the current CFP playoff agreement reverts to control by B1G/SEC, the other conference reps take a minority position. In 2026 the playoff will be 14 teams, only the B1G and SEC Champs getting the bye. B1G and SEC then also get 3 more spots, total 8.

The speculation was that Big12 and ACC Champs get an auto bid plus a spot for ND if they qualify. The ACC may be moving to giving their regular season champ the auto-bid spot and revising their CCG to a play-in game for a second spot in the CFP playoff. No mention on what the Big12 will do.

If the same holds true for Big12, and ND gets a spot then the top G5/6 team gets the 12 slot. The 2 B1G/SEC bye teams will play the winners of whatever the CFP bracket looks like. He also said that the B1G and SEC would be moving to 20 teams each, the top 40, if you will!

Anybody else heard anything like this? I'm not sure this would be a good thing. Also, it was being reported elsewhere, but I can't find it.
