Carter Submits Name for NBA Draft

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (April 24, 2017) – West Virginia University junior guard Jevon Carter has officially submitted his name for the 2017 NBA Draft. Carter will not hire an agent.

“Jevon will go through the process in a systematic and professional manner by exploring the situation and leaving open his option to come back for his senior season,” Coach Bob Huggins said.

A native of Maywood, Illinois, Carter led the Mountaineers in scoring at 13.5 points per game and in steals with 92 on the season. Carter was named the NABC Defensive Player of the Year, the Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Year, All-Big 12 Conference Second Team and named to the All-Big 12 Defensive Team for the third year in a row.

Wise move on Carter's part. His profile likely won't get any higher, unless he wins the National Defensive Player of the Year award again next season.

For selfish reasons, I hope he come's back. Is this about getting an evaluation or is it a real possibility that he leaves.

Good luck to Carter. I hope he stays but if he has the opportunity to get drafted he will probably go. Our style of play and the minutes he plays is tough on the body. You never know how he'll hold up in another full season and injury is a real concern.

Isn't this a fairly common way to find out what the NBA thinks you need to work on?

He'll never be more than a 2nd round pick, so if he can get a guarantee that a team will take him there this year, he should remain in the draft......

In your opinion, he'll never be more than a second-round pick. Will he even be picked this year? If not, waiting until next year to be a second round pick might be a good idea.

Hope he enjoy playing in Europe. Good luck to ya JC. I guess we all know where the open scholarship is coming from.

It's always a good idea to finish the degree if a junior has a second round projection. Carter is bright kid. He'll be back if he's sure he's a second round pick.

If the evaluation is iffy about a possible first round projection, he may go.

Basketball unlike football offers many employment opportunities outside of a single league. This could be like a Devin Williams situation where he has the opportunity to pull 6 figures elsewhere and doesn't want to sacrifice another year making $0.

Carter will return and play next year for the Mountaineers. This information comes from the 'shiny shoes'...........so, you can go to the bank with it. Warez

Opportunity and reality are two very different things.

[Salaries in the NBA D-League have long been a lightning rod for debate and discussion. There are definite benefits of a player staying on the NBA’s doorstep by playing in the NBA, but the lack of compensation leads a lot of top players to head overseas for bigger paydays as well.

For the past couple seasons the salary structure in place has consisted of tiers. There were three tiers of salaries: $13,000 (C), $19,000 (B) and $25,500 (A) and each team had a salary cap of $173,000 on top of that.

A league source has told Upside & Motor the structure will be altered for the 2016/17 season. Now there will only be two tiers for salaries as the “C” has been eliminated. The new salary levels will be $19,500 (B-Level) and $26,000 (A-Level) and the salary cap will rise to $209,000 also.]

After going undrafted in the 2016 NBA draft, Williams joined the Milwaukee Bucks for the 2016 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.[13] In five games for the Bucks, he averaged 2.0 points and 2.4 rebounds in 7.6 minutes per game.[10]

On August 9, 2016, Williams signed with Melbourne United for the 2016–17 NBL season.[14] Williams struggled to make an impact for United off the bench over the first month of the season, which led to speculation of him being released by the club.[15] That was not to be, and on November 6, he had a season-best game with 13 points and seven rebounds in an 82–73 loss to the Illawarra Hawks.[16] His next best game came on December 11, as he had a 6-point, 10-rebound effort in an 88–81 win over the Sydney Kings.[17] In the following game however on December 17, Williams went down with a knee injury early in United's 100–90 loss to the Brisbane Bullets,[18] and was subsequently ruled out for four to six weeks with a Grade 2 medial ligament strain.[19] On January 31, 2017, after fully recovering, Williams was granted a release from his contract to source opportunities to play in the US.[20] On February 14, 2017, he was acquired by the Greensboro Swarm of the NBA Development League.[21]

Devin is living his dream, but he ain't making the big bucks. One day he may make a nice living from basketball, but not right now. The road to the gold is one ruff and tuff ride.

Most notable college players pull 6 figures overseas, this isnt like our 8th man looking for work in the Siberian B league, this is an All Big 12 junior guard, he will find well paying work somewhere.

Low definitely. But considering where he came from, it might as well been a million

You said it all there, Keaton. My cousin was the basketball coach at William's Cincy H.S., Withrow, in the 60's and 70's. That's a rough neighborhood. I remember him taking me over there for the first time when I was around 13. We get to a light and he says, "Lock your door before we get to that mailbox, you never know what's going to happen when you get past there."

JC is making a smart and professional move for a Junior with potential to play one the professional level one day. He has the work ethic and the attitude to excel overseas or possibly here in the NBA. In my opinion as a big JC fan, I believe that he is using this opportunity to get an NBA evaluation to work on what he needs to fix in his current skill-set. With his work ethic, he should be able to fix whatever comes from the evaluation. As a selfish fan, I want to see him make one more run at a National Championship.
