very, very poor weather....wind made it extremely cold and hard to do anything, for both teams. Martinsburg has a very good team, they received a test today, I would believe their toughest yet. I was there...I, like everyone else have heard all the great things about Barrett. There is no doubt, he is a very fine player, however, give me their QB anyday of the week. That kid is just flat out tough. Great arm, good vision, fast, runs hard, and is tough to bring down.

Next thing I would like to know is........where are these kids from?? I would be curious to see where these kids live and how long they have been in Martinsburg??? Just very curious???

First of all Barrett is tough, has always been tough since a very young age in all sports.Sowers is the QB and hes just a pure athlete, should win states with the B-Ball team and should win states in the discus(his older brothers both did at Hedgesville)

Lastly all the players as far as I know are from the Martinsburg district. Berkeley Co.is by far the fastest growing county in the state, and with that, more athletes are coming into the e. panhandle(mostly from the DC Metro area). So in the future Martinsburg, Musselmen, Jefferson, Hedgesville, and theres talk of a new AAA HS in north Berkeley (Spring Mills)will all have more competitive teams.

If u have any other ?'s I will try to answer them, good effort from a very good CM team, you guys always are tough in track. Good Luck in everything!

I live in the Eastern Panhandle. Yes, these Martinsburg kids are from this area and are products of the public school system from a young age. I am not a Martinsburg fan and get really tired of them running up the score on the other area teams. (Hedgesville, Musselman, and Jefferson) Can you image having to play them 2 times in regular season. As much as it pains me to say it they are just plain good. But their day will come to lose just like everybody else. I want to see that day.

That surprises me. We believe they recruited some of those kids (not sure which ones) to go to school at Martinsburg and play football. This is not illegal, unethical in our book and we don't do it. I was just wondering if any of those kids actually lived in other school districts and made the decision to attend Martinsburg instead of their own school. Of course you will never know and now that the game is over.....who cares???? I just personally hate to see out of area recruiting go on.

Again, this is not illegal and I am not insinuating that at all. However, our team (Cabell Midland) is home grown and not recruited. There is something to be said for accomplishing goals with what you are given, instead of recruiting to build a HS team.

Thanks for the info. Wish the weather had been better. Martinsburg is extremely talented at every position. I saw no weaknesses. As far as all the kids being from the Martinsburg district, that is some strong district. I would still be curious to know, if any of those kids CHOSE to come to Martinsburg instead of the HS they were supposed to attend???

Frist off my son played at Martinsburg last year and I can tell you that all the kids that play at Martinsburg live in district. The kids that transfered in from out of state came here to live not just to play football. And there is more coming every day because the famlies moveing here to get out of the city. And Bville don't judge all Martinsburg fans by a few.And one thing about Brandon Barrett If he's not catching the ball he is drawing defenders with him that leaves others open.Think what you will but it looks to me that everybody is praying that he goes to WVU.

Re: yep

-- Barrett makes everybody else on the field a little better. And those guys are already pretty good.

Re: yep

Hey guys....not taking anything at all from Barrett. He is obviously a talent and I am sure he would be great at WVU. All I am saying is there are other kids on that team that make it go as well. It is by no stretch a one man show. That is simply not the case. He may receive a lot of attention from other teams, but you can't over concentrate on him. If you do...one of the other guys will hurt you. That, to me, is what happened to Midland on the first Martinsburg score. They were watching Barrett and the RB killed them.

As for the fans...I took care of that and believe me we have ours too. It just seemed odd with the mixed seating. Usually one side for visitors one for the home team....not that way there.

Re: seating....

Until last year, the side Cabell was on had been the home side since the 1940s. The changes are part of structural improvements paid for largely by citizens and matching state money (you might have noticed the giant brick wall...each brick was $20) so that the upgraded field would be usable for playoff games. Improvements over the last 10-12 years include a new concession and bathroom building, new goal posts, new scoreboard, new fencing pushed back off the field (it used to be on the other side of the track, but they put it on the outside to protect the track), and the all-weather track (twice over, I think). The new seats were added last.

There are a lot of people I'm sure who still think of it as the home side. They've sat there for years and probably envision the game from that point of view even when they don't come. It's hard for me not to picture Martinsburg on the "old home side." So, that and just the sheer numbers of people who came out probably accounts for the fan situation.

Re: seating....

Thanks for the info. The facilities were very nice. The concessions, bathrooms...I could tell the stands we sat in were new. Nice field. I wish the weather had been just a little nicer...but nothing any of us could do about that. Think MHS would consider coming to Cabell Midland to play? I think that would be great. We would have a great crowd.

Re: Given

the difficulties they have scheduling people, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea. Next year, they're probably going to have two MSAC teams on the schedule anyway. They play four conference games. I'm sure the two Maryland teams won't want to play them again. They probably have a return trip to ParkView, a school that's considerably larger than Martinsburg right near Dulles Airport.

They ended up 5-5 after being a state title contender. That game was supposed to be a major test, but ended up being 45-7.
