Dude has very minimal experience and has been a GA for over twice as long as he's been a DC. Only 1 year in P4 and that as a co-DC on a team where the head coach is basically the true DC. Not on any "hot" lists or "best DC" lists. If OU wanted him that bad they would have made it happen. They just feel slighted by a coach leaving their program to go to one they perceive as inferior. Alley probably saw the writing on the wall with Venebals likely being fired within the next year or so and jumped ship. No other programs were knocking down the door trying to get this guy.Wvu just landed one of the hottest young DCs in the game. Stole him from a blue blood team and the mega monster sec conference. This is beyond what Neal could've even imagined or desired. Wvu is a legit football program that can land good and popular coaches as long as we pay the going rate. Those who doubted that are in for a big awakening over the next few years.
That’s actually not true. Oklahoma tried to keep him. You can try and downplay this, but it’s actually a huge win for WVU and Rodriguez.Dude has very minimal experience and has been a GA for over twice as long as he's been a DC. As strange as this sounds I hope he’s crazy successful in the first couple years and gets a head coaching job. It’s inevitable that will happen if so. So we might as well root for this scenario.
If OU wanted him that bad, he wouldn't be coming to WVU.That’s actually not true. Oklahoma tried to keep him. You can try and downplay this, but it’s actually a huge win for WVU and Rodriguez.
Casteel was here from 2020-2023 under Neal Brown then retired. Coach LB's during Covid season and before retirement He then stepped into a senior defensive analyst role through 2023. I suspect it will be the same role.I like this hire, Casteel, not so much. But I support all that wear the WV so I will stomach it.
I just bet one of many anti Brown, pro-RR $100 at 6 wins for 2025. 6 is a push. Others wouldn't take the bet even though they were pretty confident of a winning season next year. I hope I lose but am pretty confident I won't until we build the roster with plenty of depth

They could have found another couple hundred thousand laying around to keep him. Which OU DC nominated Zac Alley for Broyles award and why does that even matter? Finishing #31 isn't that special, especially with OU's players (remember, WVU does not get 4 and 5 star talent) and OU being considered a blue blood and consistent top 25 program. The fact is that Zac has minimal experience as a DC. He was co-DC at OU and likely had lots of help from Venebals.
Alley's contract at Oklahoma - $850,000 a year through Jan. 31, 2027.
OU is not Texas. They don't have the same kind of money as they do
Oklahoma defensive coordinator nominated Zac Alley nominated for Broyles Award.
Alley's defense had a strong season his only year in Norman. They finished No. 31 nationally in total defense and No. 5 in the SEC.
His 2023 defense at Jacksonville State finished No. 33 in the county in scoring defense (21.2).
Prior to his time at ULM, he worked at Boise State as the school's special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach under Bryan Harsin from 2019-20.
Brent Venables is on a short leash at OU and most likely will be fired after 2025. OU is becoming the Nebraska of the SEC. Enjoy.
