If OU can seek into the playoffs WVU has a good shot at the Cotton Bowl.

I think we would lose that spot because of the head-to-head with OSU, who would get that slot over us if OU gets in a CFP slot. Then we would likely get the Alamo Bowl.

If OU gets left out of the CFP they would get the Cotton as the Big Xii champs, followed by OSU to the Alamo and WVU to the Russell Athletic as the 3rd place/pick.

That's if we win out.

Yep, you're right. Since the Sugar isn't a CFP bowl this year they're in play for the Big Xii champs. Good catch, still you only move everything down/up one with OSU still owning the H-to-H over WVU. But it would move us up to the Alamo Bowl, better bowl.

But if OU gets the CFP slot and OSU fills the Sugar slot, then WVU could get the Cotton if they choose to use that slot for another Big Xii team. I believe the Cotton has the option to pass on the Big Xii if they so choose as they are At Large & G5 when they are not in the CFP mix.

I don't remember all the rules for the Cotton but I know the ND option is no longer available.

It's the Alamo or bust for me. Any season that ends in the Russell Athletic Bowl is a disappointment. This program has played enough ACC bowl opponents to last me 10 lifetimes, we definitely don't need another.

So where does the Cotton get to pick in the pecking order since they pick an at large and we have affiliations with Alamo, Russell, etc.? (Assuming they wanted a Big 12 team)

As a NY6 game they are pretty much out of the equation for the Big 12 this year, but if a miracle somehow occurred all NY6 games pick before any lower bowls do. In other words, they will pick after Sugar but before any other Big 12-affiliated bowl. Just don't expect them to select one of our conference's squads. The Big Ten is likely going to dominate the NY6 selections this year.

The Russell Athletic Bowl does not really spark my interest too much not like maybe The Alamo Bowl would.

But any major Bowl game will be a nice conclusion to a very solid season. Hopefully The Mountaineers can finish strong and win the remaining games.

Russell Athletic Bowl is fine with me - I could drive to that one. It probably won't happen but Brawl renewal with Pitt would be good.
