—West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins wasn’t in there when Darris Nichols addressed the West Virginia team after the game.

—The Mountaineers played well for a while and then quit playing. They did a good job defending and rotating and then quit doing that.

—Huggins said he has no idea how serious the injury is for Sean McNeil. He hasn’t talked to him.

—Huggins said the young guys have a long way to go. They aren’t in very good shape because the other guys eat up the practice time. He doesn’t know if it’s fair to assess them when they haven’t had the same reps. He thinks they can help them eventually but he knows it isn’t now. It’s a big step and things will only get tougher Wednesday.

—Huggins said why would you redshirt players with the way things are today with roster turnover. He wanted to make sure Okonkwo’s family was good with it first after the foot injury and he was behind it.

—Okonkwo is an extremely intelligent kid. It’s the same if they can get a talented kid like him it’s going to take him a while. He was out for a good while with his foot. He’s going to be one big strong player and he’s got good bounce. When he gets slowed down a little bit he can shoot it and do some things those other guys can’t do. Huggins said he just started a week and a half ago and they haven’t scrimmaged. He’s in bad shape right now but most of them are.

—Huggins is really proud of Paulicap and he has become a really reliable player. Huggins thinks he would play hurt if he needs to. He’s the best rebounder and best inside scorer.

—Huggins said they don’t have any choice but to rely on Taz Sherman’s scoring. It’s a well known fact that the guys that put the time in and work get better.

—Huggins thinks Connecticut has the best athletes in the country. They are talented athletically and they remind him a lot of some teams that he had at Cincinnati.

—The players should have used this as an opportunity to step up in McNeil’s absence.
