The Big 12 has nine teams ranked or receiving votes in
coaches and Associated Press polls with four in top 15 of both polls, and two
in top five of coaches poll.
The Big 12 is the only league with eight teams with one or
fewer losses. (The Southeastern Conference has seven)
The Big 12 has the top three teams in total offense; seven
in the top 25 in scoring offense; and five in the top 25 in scoring defense.
All 10 Big 12 teams are in the top 27 of NCAA leaders for
toughest schedule, sorted on cumulative opposition.
The Big 12 has six of the top nine quarterbacks in NCAA
passing efficiency.
Baylor (3-1, 0-1; idle; vs. TCU Saturday)
The Bears hope to bounce back from their first loss of the
season when they host TCU in a game between former members of the old Southwest
Conference. Baylor defeated the Horned Frogs 50-48 in a non-conference game
that was the Bears' season opener last season.
Iowa State (4-1, 1-1; defeated TCU, 37-23; vs. Iowa State
Saturday)
Quarterback Jared Barnett, making his first start of the
season, tied a career high with three touchdown passes.
Receiver Josh Lenz set career highs for receiving yards
(147) and touchdowns (three). He's the first Iowa State receiver three
touchdown catches since Oct. 29, 2005 when Todd Blythe had four against Texas
A&M.
Linebacker Jake Knott had a season-high 13 tackles, his 16th
career game with double digit tackles.
Under coach Paul Rhoads, Iowa State has three victories on
the road over ranked teams. The Cyclones haven't trailed in any of the three
games.
Iowa State completed two passes of 50-plus yards in the same
game for the first time since Oct. 29, 2005.
Kansas (1-4, 0-2; lost to Kansas State, 56-16; vs. Oklahoma
State Saturday)
Junior running back James Sims rushed for 115 yards on 28
carries. It marked his first 100-yard
rushing game since gaining 110 yards against Northern
Illinois in 2011.
Sophomore running back Tony Pierson matched his career high
with six receptions in the first half and notched his first receiving
touchdown.
Kansas used four quarterbacks in the game, the most since
before the 2006 season as
Dayne Crist, Kale Pick, Christian Matthews and Michael
Cummings all took snaps from center.
Kansas scored a touchdown on its first possession for the
first time this year. It was the first time the Jayhawks scored a TD on the
opening drive against a Bill Snyder-coached team since 2004.
Kansas State (5-0, 2-0; defeated Kansas 56-16; at Iowa State
Saturday)
Senior quarterback Collin Klein has 40 career rushing
touchdowns, which is tied for second in school history and tied for the school
record by a quarterback.
Junior running back John Hubert had a career-high four
rushing touchdowns.
Kansas State coach Bill Snyder has a 100-29 record when his
team is ranked in the Associated Press top 25.
Kansas State is plus-10 in turnover margin (13 forced, three
committed) and has the fewest penalties in the NCAA.
Kansas State gained a season-high 364 yards rushing.
Oklahoma (3-1, 1-1; defeated Texas Tech 41-20; vs. Texas in
Dallas Saturday)
Landry Jones is 32-9 as a starting quarterback and is tied
with Steve Davis for the most victories in school history.
Jones is now one of three players in Big 12 history and one
of 23 in NCAA history to have 100 touchdown passes and 13,000 passing yards in
his career.
Oklahoma is 72-1 all-time under Bob Stoops when scoring 40
or more points.
Since 2004, Oklahoma is 19-0 in games following a loss. The
Sooners haven't lost consecutive games in a season since the last two games in
2003.
Oklahoma State (2-2, 0-1; idle; at Kansas Saturday)
The Cowboys return to action at Kansas. Oklahoma State
defeated the Jayhawks 70-28 last season in Stillwater.
TCU (4-1, 1-1; lost to Iowa State 37-23; at Baylor Saturday)
Quarterback Trevone Boykin and left guard Joey Hunt became
the 13th and 14th different Horned Frogs to make their first career starts this
season.
Boykin's 270 yards passing are the most by a TCU freshman
since Andy Dalton threw for 298 against San Diego State on Nov. 24, 2007.
Freshman Jaden Oberkrom's 50-yard third-quarter field goal
marked the longest made kick by a Horned Frog since Ross Evans was successful
from 50 yards at New Mexico on Aug. 30, 2008.
The loss ended TCU's winning streak at 12 and its 25-game
winning streak in conference games. Both were the longest in FBS. It was just
the second home loss in the last 30 games at Amon Carter Stadium.
TCU has scored at least 20 points in 31 straight games, the
longest streak in FBS.
Texas (4-1, 1-1; lost to West Virginia 48-45; vs. Oklahoma
in Dallas Saturday)
Sophomore running back Joe Bergeron had a career-high four
rushing touchdowns.
Freshman running back Johnathan Gray had a career-best
49-yard and a career-high 87 yards rushing.
During Mack Brown's tenure at Texas, it was just the fifth
loss when Texas won the turnover battle.
Texas blocked two kicks (one punt and one field goal) and
now has five on the season. Texas has blocked the second most kicks in the
nation (59) since the start of the 2002 season.
Texas had a fumble recovery for a touchdown and has scored
83 non-offensive touchdowns since 1999 which is tied for second most in the FBS
with Kansas State. Virginia Tech has scored 84 times over that time span.
The attendance of 101,851 was a record for Darrell K
Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
Texas Tech (4-1, 1-1; lost to Oklahoma 41-20; vs. West
Virginia Saturday)
Sophomore kicker Ryan Bustin kicked two field goals and is
eight-of-10 converting field goals this season.
Texas Tech has had at least 10 receivers catch at least one
pass in all five games of the season.
Texas Tech has lost five consecutive Big 12 home games.
The attendance of 60,800 was a Jones AT&T Stadium
record.
West Virginia (5-0, 2-0; defeated Texas 48-45; at Texas Tech
Saturday)
Sophomore running back Andrew Buie finished with a
career-best 207 yards rushing on a career-high 31 attempts.
Senior wide receiver Tavon Austin finished with 10 catches,
giving him double-digit receptions in six consecutive games.
West Virginia defeated a top 15 team on the road for the
first time since Nov. 26, 1993.
West Virginia was 0-for-4 on fourth-down attempts but
converted all five fourth downs against Texas.
The attendance of 101,851 is the largest crowd West Virginia
has played in front of; the previous best was 96,445 at Penn State on Oct. 26,
1991.
